Description
The ruins of the Seneca Stonecutting mill located at the end of Tschifflely Mill Road, Poolesville MD. This mill was the source of the red sandstone used to build the Smithsonian Castle and many other structures in the region. When first quarried, the sandstone is soft enough to cut with a saw. After exposure to the air it becomes hard.Related content
