H.G.Wells just had a fangasm.
What is the criteria for cospro exacly?
It looks like the definition would be more subyective because a person can make a cosplay for fun but it's still amaizing while a proffesional can make a cosplay that doean't turn out well.
I've seen similar problem with zerm ''anime'' where some people think it means a better cartoon. and is difficult to determine what falls under the term.
All i'm trying to say is the term needs a more clear definition in order to be commonly used.

Hello,
Great work!
Is there any chance I could use this photo on a book?
I'm writing a book about steampunk jewelry - "How To" or "Do It Yourself" kind of a book.
Besides my own jewelry projects, I would like to illustrate it with some steampunk images like the one above.

You guys look awesome. Though you may have gone a little bit overboard. Im not saying it's not superly awesomely epic. Just saying that it's a bit over the top.

Good thinking. I do the same, namely, join two concepts together. For example, I do steampunk pin-ups, not exactly a classic pin-up subject! Thinking outside the box and being able to name/explain/market a concept to others is a high form of creative thinking that can allow someone a higher success level in their creative field. I believe "paradigm shift" is an applicable concept too. Excellent costume. It must be heavy!

There's a notable difference between taking it one step further and going overboard. Costumes with that level of detail are already out there, and they don't feel as random and out of place. In my book, a given piece of mechanism (let's say, a gauge) needs a defined function beyond being pretty. For example, if I have a gauge hanging somewhere, it's more likely than not an antique voltmeter in working order and can be used to accurately check voltages.
I don't criticise your workmanship, it's clearly top notch, but your aesthetic choices are a bit questionable. Seems like you over-egged the pudding there, old chap.

I agree with you completely! Even if you have an impressive looking costume, that doesn't necessarily mean you're a "pro." I think that term implies a good understanding of not just one piece of clothing, but an outfit as a whole; the one on the right just seems a bit too clunky to deserve the being called "pro." Sure, the crafstmanship is awesome, but I think the aesthetics are a bit off... Then again, maybe AmbassadorMann has a point.
Aside from that, I think the term "cospro" is taking it too far. Seriously, if you take cosplay so seriously that you need to take an elitist attitude toward it, then doesn't that take all the fun out of it? The whole point of cosplay is to enjoy making or wearing a costume, not to create tiers of skill level. The all-inclusive nature of the cosplay community is why I like it so much. You don't need some special term to have your work recognized...If it's good, people will come to expect more of your costumes, and you'll get a good reputation without separating yourself from the beginners using terminology like "cospro." That's my two-cents, at least.

You are 100% right on that point, mate! While the design and the quality of craft is superb, and all the materials are authentic.... all these gauges, and tubes, and springs, and gears just seem to be a bit of too much. But actually, I think that this issue may be the major "problem" of the whole steampunk subculture's fashion, at least for the moment. I think that it will take some considerable time for the steampunk fashion to refine itself. The concept of "function in fashion" will definetly emerge some time later. But for now, these costumes are still a higher level from the majority of the things that we can see here at DA.

My approach to costumes is simple, I don't use anything I couldn't use as everyday wear. Cheap materials are right out. It's not really about the materials, it's how you use them. Plastics have their place, but it's definitely not in the spotlight. They can still be of good use, if properly masked. I tend to paint plastic parts British Rail green, with golden accents, to make it look more like boilerplate. I'm of the Victorian with goggles school of steampunk fashion though. Give me a jetpack to go with the boiler suit and I'm happy.

dude, cool it! the costumes are epic anyway, there is no way these cant classify as professional(so why shouldn't they have the initiative to coin a word they want to use to define themselves?), and people can make up as many words as they want, as long as they can make them stick.
And cospro is no lamer than cosplay, for that matter.

less of the offensive words dude or it will be shown to deviant art and it will be sorted out. Some people like it some people don't, never the less it was inevitable that it was going to happen one day whether by me or somebody else, it's the future dude like it or not. So I will end it with this - if you like it then like it if you don't then you don't. i don't have a problem either way, let people make up their own mind if you don't mind. So you really don't need to come and visit my site again do you really?

So, just out of curiousity, you said it is your design, but someone else builds the costume from your concept?
It's very beautiful work, no doubt.

in short cospro can mean many things to the person that make, the person that designs, to the person that desplay the costume .the word cospro is new, so for now i dont exspect you to understand and if you say the costume builder should be taking full credit over the costume designer then i guess it's a short cut to thinking vivienne westwood etc does not give any credit to the tailor i actually do and please don't come back with i am trying to compare myself to vivienne westwood it was just an example. now please if you don't agree with me and what i do then just don't bother looking on my site.
