So, me and my friend have been binge-watching - Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor (Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor/Gambler).Β
Yes, it's an Anime that focuses on the strategy and psychology of an obsessive Gambler.
I must say, I was quite surprised to find that the theme is extremely interesting, sometimes even hilarious and the story is cleverly put together.
That and Kaiji is a rather cool character, despite how much the narrator claims he is "an average guy."

This series ruined me mentally and emotionally, I think that watching it was bad for my health (especially the second season), lol xd But Kaiji is so great anime & manga, it's a very entertaining series and you get easily engaged in watching it, since Kaiji is very relatable character and he's such a good guy, we can't help but root for him, even if he can be so reckless at times.
I wonder how you'll enjoy the second season, since many people are complaining that it's too dragged out. Personally I liked the second season a bit more than the first one. In my opinion both are fantastic ^^ But I highly doubt they'll make the third season ._. I heard that this anime didn't sell very well in Japan, which I find a bit surprising, since the Kaiji manga is pretty popular out there. In fact the second season was just an advertisement for the second live action movie based on Kaiji manga. That's pretty sad if you ask me, but it's great nonetheless that Madhouse Studio made two seasons instead of just one.
Always a pleasure to meet another fan of Kaiji, keep on progressing!

So far, I have been enjoying the second season.
I hope the ending to this season is just as interesting as the ending to the first one.
You are right, that's sort of what I like about Kaiji's character.
He has flaws just like the rest of us, but he is always trying his best to improve.
Thanks for the beefy comment man, I appreciate your input and support!

Good! Have you finished the chinchirorin arc yet?
Personally I like the ending of the second season more than the one from the first season. The first season ended in such depressing way (this whole season is really depressing tbh) and I was soo angry with Kaiji after the last gamble he forced on Hyoudou, but well, I can understand Kaiji's actions, even if they weren't very wise, furthermore, that ending shows one more time that world of Kaiji is brutal and harsh and cost of making a mistake is high.
I like him for that too! I'm just fed up with characters who are flawless, cliche and bland, but Kaiji is definitely not one of them. His personality is explored even more in the manga, though the fact that manga focuses more on portraying Kaiji as "a human trash" annoys me a bit, but well, this way when he's shown as a person who's far from being perfect, his acts of kindness, loyalty and his creativity combined with quick thinking are even more impressive ^^
No problem ^^

I couldn't remember the name of the dice game they played, but yeah, we just finished the Chinchirorin arc.
I feel like the story itself is off on a good start, though I wasn't expecting any of it.
It was a little depressing, however, I sure as hell didn't see it coming. He was on top of his game up until his last gamble.
He did get a little greedy, but like you said it is understandable when considering his lifestyle at the time.
He would simply be back at square one, trying to scrape-by.
I agree with you that cliched protagonists are always boring and you see the twists and outcomes coming, because it's so obvious.
Kaiji (both the anime and character) are not like that. It always keep you on edge and the cliffhangers are well thought-out.
This also means that I enjoyed how Season 1 ended, because it makes things a lot more interesting in the long run.
That's just my thought on things. Thanks for the talk.

Me and my friend are watching it together, so it takes a little time to progress.
However, we have just reached Season 2 and we only hope that they make a Season 3, by the time we are done!
Thank you so much for the kind words amigo, you already know how much it means to me
