Michiko to HatchinI asked about this anime on my tumblr not too long ago, and I finally got around to checking out the first episode (and some of the second)
This is a MUST WATCH on any anime lover's list. Hana (Hatchin) has one ASS of a family, and while Machiko isn't the best role model, she's one cool ass mamma. (literally, Machiko apparently claims to be the mother of this little girl)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Michiko to Hatchin had the same director as Cowboy Bebop. Or at least, I know they both have something in common. Samurai Champloo as well.

Have you ever seen the movie City Of God, if not I would suggest watching it. It's pretty much the same thing, but with two women weaving their way through similar events looking for Hana(Hatchin's) old man. A better way to describe it would be a Thelma and Louise-esc show in Porto Rico.

i would suggest checking it out...it's kind of messed up, but the themes of Michiko to Hatchin are the same. Beating the odds, personal growth, resisting temptation, bettering ones self in an environment of hardship, all that stuff.
