Description Thank you very, very much to everyone who ed this piece!
I usually make it a point to thank everyone individually, because I never take interest in my work - by anyone - for granted, but I have very limited time right now, so once again thank you very much! Every single comment and is truly appreciated and means a lot.

I figured that I do something that feels a little warmer this time.

Two "Beetle" shuttles en route to their Firefly-class 'mothership' from a trade mission; trying to stay ahead of a sandstorm.

COMPOSITION: Main image (except for the planets) rendered in Bryce 7.1 Pro; my work. Additional digital painting and details (surface, planets), FX and composition done in Photoshop.

MESHES: Beetle shuttle by darthviper107.

I have looked at about 100 starships today and I saw this and thought, 'Hmm, that looks like Serenitys shuttles...' I just blew myself away....

Well, it's not easy to get employed in the media industry without proper contacts or having an arts degree of sorts, so I kept it a hobby mostly...

JustalankyTexan In reply to overseer [2012-11-19 20:29:04 +0000 UTC]

I think you could get employed in a heartbeat. You have amazing skills.

overseer In reply to JustalankyTexan [2012-11-19 21:03:17 +0000 UTC]

It's all a matter of availability and knowing the right people. Many look at your college education and unless you have an arts degree there's not much to be done. But then I have a day job, so that's all good.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JustalankyTexan In reply to overseer [2012-11-19 21:05:48 +0000 UTC]

That is true... Of course, are you considering college or is that a no? Because I'm sure you'd catch the eye of all those art professors and such. Also, I bet you get payed more than I do at your day job.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

overseer In reply to JustalankyTexan [2012-11-19 21:29:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm not considering college, no. I don't work well in an environment where people try to teach me stuff I already know. Payment in the art business is highly varied and a permanent position would require to work with a company that is active in the multimedia business. I'm not very good with people telling me what they want, because I have my own idea how something should look like. The odd commission here and there, fine, and if there ever was a job offer in the art business and if I was unemployed at the time I'd consider it, but I work in IT, so I can't complain about my salary.

Interesting craft! Like the stubby wings!

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

ccbig In reply to ccbig [2012-11-12 21:06:08 +0000 UTC]

The wings also follow true life current designs seen in some of the newer military helicopters and VTOL craft.

From what I have heard is that the stubby wings on those craft are there to add additional lift and steering and of course are not naturally the main source of vehicle of lift. They can also make good weapons platforms!

Nice work!

overseer In reply to ccbig [2012-11-12 20:54:23 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.

If I go by the size comparison of the show this originates from (Joss Whedon's Firefly), those aren't much bigger than a bus or maybe a small aircraft. Something between a larger helicopter and a lear jet in size. Since a lot of other hardware in that show operates on antigrav engines, these are probably similar!

Thanks! I try and force myself to keep things simple. If too much is intoduced into a scene (when not necessary) it can get cluttered.

Gotta love Firefly. I can see how if you don't recognize the shuttle you can get that Dune feel. But for me I can see Inara racing back to the ship in front of Zoey.

Thank you, and yes, absolutely. One of the best sci-fi shows ever to be seen. Damn you FOX for making booting it! Hehe, yep, that story works just find for me!

I actually somewhat based it on a scene from the episode "War Stories". Just couldn't stop at one shuttle!
