They actually made lovely pets. If you google "thylacine as a pet" you'll end up on the website "Where Light Meets Dark" and there are many stories. I would totally have one.

Yes, someone else made a comment about this and I was distracted for half an hour reading about it. Apparently the most successful taming attempts were those cases in which the thylacine was treated kindly - sadly something which didn't occur to many people in those days.

One positive that can definitely be said about the current time over any other is that the treatment of animals is the best it has ever been. I'm sure there have always been people who have treated animals kindly, but in the past, it seems, the primary view of animals was of objects that existed to serve a purpose for humans. I'm glad that's changed.

Some of the better coloured pencil work I've seen. Looks very natural as well as detailed. Though can I ask how much is due to the gouache?

Thank you, that's very kind!
Perhaps 50/50 gouache and pencil. My process started with a gouache wash, then sketching in pencil forms, gouache shadows, more pencil definition, gouache highlights, more pencil, more gouache details, then a detailed layer of pencil fur, finally some white gouache finishing touches, e.g. reflections on the eye and nose.

Oh, I didn't even watch the whole thing - only that scene, but I plan to watch the whole movie.

It really has very little to do with thylacines. The footage of the Tasmanian highlands is very pretty though.

That's fascinating! I just did a quick Google search and read that in the 1800s many people tried to tame them, some quite successfully.

Well Thylacines were sighted a few times over the years after being claimed extinct, even though there's no proof, it moved from extinct to endangered species and are protected, so it's very rare to see one in Australia.

Yeah, I am still so squeeling about finding you. This is beautiful, the skull study was beautiful, crazy adore your biology works and extinct creature works.
It's gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!
If these guys where still around, prevalent enough to have as 'domesticated', you bet your booty I'd keep one, put my butt into debt owning enough property for it to run around, foods to nom, and make it as spoiled as physically possible so I could take it around to school and libraries and teach people the importance of the creatures we share this planet with. <3 <3 <3
How could anyone not love that face!!!!!!!????

You are too kind <3
I really wish they were still alive so I could see a sight like that. Obviously they would be a difficult animal to keep and manage, but it would be amazing to see them up close while handled by professionals in educational programs.
