THE BIRTH OF JASPER RACCOON1 March 1985
2:20pm
Jack and Lydia and Paul (Jack's father) are in their house in the city of Vancouver. Lydia is pregnant. Lydia feels her belly.
LYDIA: It's moving. Feel it.
Paul feels Lydia's belly. he feels the unborn baby kicking.
PAUL: What are you going to call the baby?
JACK: Well..if it's a boy, we'll call it Jasper because it ias a totally cool name for a male raccoon and if it's a gril, we'll call it Jasmine because it's a very pretty name for a female raccoon.
PAUL: Good for you.
1 July 1985
9:00am
Jack and Lydia are at the Canada Day parade, watching the Canadian Mounted Police Dogs riding on their horses in a street in the city of Vancouver. Lydia bends over and holds her belly and moans.
LYDIA: The baby's coming! The baby's coming.
Jack and Lydia go to the Vancouver General Hospital in a taxi. Lydia is in the delivery room and in labour, moaning and screaming.
LYDIA: NNNNNNNGHAAAAAAH!
Sound of a crying baby raccoon is heard.
A male panda doctor picks up the baby raccoon.
MALE PANDA DOCTOR: (Speaking English in a Chinese accent.) It's a boy!
JACK: A boy! Hooray! We've got Jasper!...We've got Jasper! Congratulations, darling!
LYDIA: Oh Jasper! I like that name! (Smiles.)
9:03pm
Jack is standing with Lydia on the balcony of their apartment on the tenth floor. They are watching the Canada Day fireworks from the balcony of their apartment on the tenth floor. Jack is holding baby Jasper.
JACK: Those fireworks are really making our night with the birth of our new baby.
LYDIA: Yes.
Lydia kisses Jack.
