A digital piece, and with a background, of all things!
(Bit of a shock????) 
This here was a gift for *aaronpocock who has so graciously tolerated and encouraged me from my first month here. Critiques, comments, just saying hello, even doing a lovely sketch of my pallanophs... [link] I've really appreciated his support. I think I owe this to him!
I really hope he likes it!
(Since this is a gift art, I'll not be offering this as a print.)

I'm definately drawn to your animal pieces; you capture the detail and and textures in the natural world exceedingly well, and ravens are a favourite species of mine. I'm quite amazed how your digital work mirrors your traditional art.

Thank you! I've found the best way for me to accomplish digital these days is to start with a pencil drawing and then add color. It feels a lot more natural to me, and meshes better with my solidly traditional works.

Wow, this digital painting is sooo traditional-looking. It looks like an ink-and-watercolor piece, so having done it on the computer is quite amazing. It's beautiful.

I am always so humbled by your level of talent. Geeze. Incredibly amazing. The feathers are so detailed, and the sky is moody and perfect for this drawing. I also really like the thick black lines, it has a nice effect.

I really really love how you brought out the detail in this, down to the feathers of the raven! I also love the contrast between foreground and background, it's very dramatic!

Ha ha, I should! There's a few paintings that I have only just started (only the lines are down) that could very easily go overkill. Perhaps I should start on those and see what happens!

I suppose I'm probably just reiterating what everyone else is saying, but this really does have the charm and texture of a traditional work. I love the chilly atmosphere and the attention to detail in both the subject and the background. Beautiful work as always.

I have to say, I do think the background looks a little messy on this one, but the raven is fab.
Practice makes perfect, eventually; I still suck at backgrounds.

Hehe! I'm working on a traditional painting now involving rocky cliffs and mist (again?) and I have to say it's kind of nice to be paying closer attention to the backgrounds. Especially since I'm working on it first and resisting the urge to move too quickly to the foreground and main subject.
Backgrounds are much more challenging than people give them credit for!
