I spent a good few years exploring, defending and surviving the Exclusion Zone around the Chernobyl nuclear reactor in the video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The look and feel of the game, a mix of sci-fi and Russian paramilitary tech made the game a classic in my eyes, and I've never quite shaken the imagery.

This image shows a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - probably of the military faction - waiting for a change in the weather, or a nearby anomaly, so he can collect an artifact. The gun is an AN-94 Abakan (or Obakan in the game) on a 3-point sling. minus all the gear. The armour is made up, but the gas mask is one of those snazzy gorilla masks which seem quite ubiquitous now.

Rendered with a mix of pens and brushe, and dollops of Copic opaque white.

PS: If you've played S.T.A.L.K.E.R, or are a SF fan, you owe it to yourself to read the book it was based on: "Roadside Picnic" by Boris & Arkady Strugatsky. The last pages will haunt you, and change the way you see the game.
