yes actually, if he returns, everyone would expect him to turn good which would be like vegeta. grimmjow was just an awesome villain kubo made for an awesome fight, but somehow he became over popular!

His popular I think cause he was different, he wanted to fight a lot, he would even want to fight far by wanting them at 100% from the start, he had a goal being the strongest, unlike Norritora (I like I spilled it wrong) he knew he wasn't the strongest by he was trying to get stronger, and all I'm saying is he didn't look dead to me 1. He's eye's were open. 2. Norritora wanted to finish him but couldn't. And 3. He could have recoverd.
