This is the 10th Anniversary 1979 Trans Am with the unique silver leather interior and the 6.6 litre shaker hood like Kid Rock drove in Joe Dirt - one of my favorite year/model Trans Ams Yes, it is parked beside a 1987 Lamborghini Countach that is an unusual green with gold rims and gold leather interior and beside it is a 1977 AMC Pacer I took this pic at the California Auto Museum in Sacramento, CA.

Yeah, it does. And, after all these years I still love the look of that '79 Trans Am, especially the silver leather interior

A Firebird, a Lambo and a . . . Pacer? That's quite a combination!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Partywave In reply to RoadTripDog [2010-10-27 05:35:19 +0000 UTC]

And, that 84 Mustang conv under plastic wrap behind the Pacer was originally owned by Ricky Nelson, 1950s teen idol singer and actor whose sons were rock singers in the 90s. That place really did have a diverse collection of cars. I'll post a few more that were much rarer and valuable than these.

Stunning, beautiful, and all other words you can use to describe this car. Do you know which powertrain combo was chosen?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Partywave In reply to PaigeBurress [2010-10-26 00:35:42 +0000 UTC]

The 6.6 LITRE shaker hood scoop means it has the 403 c.i. Oldsmobile V8 with an auto trans. That year they also had a version with a hood scoop that says T/A 6.6 which corresponds to a 400 c.i. Pontiac V8 with a 4-speed stickshift. Both are awesome cars though

PaigeBurress In reply to Partywave [2010-10-26 05:31:40 +0000 UTC]

Ah, right. I knew there was a subtle difference. I have the 400/4-speed combo. Officially a 4-speed again as of Sunday.

PaigeBurress In reply to Partywave [2010-10-27 00:27:05 +0000 UTC]

Yup. The 10th Anniversary is mine and the regular '79 is my dad's.

I could drool as hell right now xD

Btw, what is the difference between a 77's and 79's Firebird? Any help?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Partywave In reply to Tengai-Skyline [2010-10-25 18:10:24 +0000 UTC]

Yes of course, the 79 has body color fascia separating the headlights. But, the 76 & 77 have black grill on the inner portion next to the headlights like in this pic: [link]

Tengai-Skyline In reply to Partywave [2010-10-25 18:25:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, right! *facepalm* How could i forget? Sorry but i live in a country we do not see things like this often....(Germany x.X)

But yeah, i remember now. I think i'ld want to have the 79's one.

Could you make a decison that easy? lol

(Thanks for the help! )

Partywave In reply to Tengai-Skyline [2010-10-26 00:38:56 +0000 UTC]

Or get a 77 and a 79. One with a stickshift built for speed and one with an auto trans and glass T-tops built for cruising.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tengai-Skyline In reply to Partywave [2010-10-26 17:12:18 +0000 UTC]

Wait, the 79 has automatic and the 77 not?

But yeah, good idea. I want this bird on the hood.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Partywave In reply to Tengai-Skyline [2010-10-26 18:37:22 +0000 UTC]

Both years were available with auto or manual, I just think the 79 would make a better looking cruiser and the 77 would make a tougher looking performance car. Yeah, the bird is a must have for a Trans Am

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tengai-Skyline In reply to Partywave [2010-10-26 20:00:39 +0000 UTC]

I wonder who'ld like to have auto on a muscle car? :/ beside the americans in generall. (Just what i heard, no offence)

I don#t wanna cruise...i want a Trans Am and show people this car in their faces.

Okay, maybe cruise, yes. Who wouldn't love the sound?

Partywave In reply to Tengai-Skyline [2010-10-27 05:41:51 +0000 UTC]

Ironically, some drag racers achieve better 1/4 mile times in automatics. I had a buddy in high school with an early 70s 455 Pontiac GTO with a 3-speed automatic that would peel out in first and second gear and even bark the tires when it shifted into 3rd gear. That was a fast muscle car

Tengai-Skyline In reply to Partywave [2010-10-27 16:58:44 +0000 UTC]

Damn, i'm jealous now. lol

All i see here are mainly 4 cylinder cars below 2.0 x.X

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Partywave In reply to Tengai-Skyline [2010-10-28 05:20:25 +0000 UTC]

That's okay, there's lots of cool below 2.0 liter cars
I miss the many European makes that pulled out of the US auto market (Fiat, Alfa, Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, Opel, etc).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tengai-Skyline In reply to Partywave [2010-10-28 17:42:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes...but i want more. Or at least a 2.0 engine...with +200HP lol

Hmm...the only brand i like of these which you listed would be Alfa maybe. Would Seat be one too? (the brand "Seat")

You might have to fight me for the T/A The Mustang had an interesting history - its original owner was old school pop singer and actor Ricky Nelson (father of the rock singer brother duo Tesla)
