Can I ask you a personal question? Can you live just from your illustrations? I recently graduated graphic design, but I have little interest in photoshoping people and making menu for restaurants :/
I would like to try being a freelance illustrator, but honestly, I don't know anyone in 'the business' who makes enough money to support himself (and pay the bills of course

Good question.
The answer is... yes
I work in animation, and have been for the past ten years.
I don't live off just my illustrations, but also of my animations.
To be more exact..
for the first seven to eight years of my professional life, I was doing ONLY animation. It wasn't that I couldn't get a job in illustration, it's just that I was loving doing animation, and I was doing so much of it that I didn't draw on the side AT ALL!
a few years back, I moved to San Francisco, and started doing sketches of the day..and soon fell in love again with drawing.
after roughly six months of starting doing that, I began getting emails and calls for work based on my illustrations.
It has grown and I am now mainly doing design and illustration work for various companies( Design work..meaning, I design worlds, characters, color keys, etc etc) and I still do a little bit of animation.
I live in San Francisco and I have three kids. I think I'm doing pretty damn good with my illustrations!

that was actually our new year's eve "party".
We got french fries for Lily, our two year old, and since the twins wake up every two to three hours, we just decided to pic nic/camp in the living room.
It was oddly... cool!
We loved it!
We watched the incredibles, Annie, Monsters inc, then Lily fell asleep, and we kept going on with movies and talks...and laughs//and//it was really really fun
One of the best New Year's eve I had in a long time!
