A Fantasy Envoy pic.

Dusty (aka Dustbunny 369) wanted to have a version of her character involved in the Fantasy Envoy universe (a project which I know I've been lagging on because of a number of unexpected things popping up, but I'm hoping to get back to it soon.) So she had this great suggestion for both the character and a story along with it. After some back and forth, we settled on what I think will eventually be a very fun story for the series.

Dusty is a relatively young (mid-late 20s) but highly gifted alchemist living and working from her cottage/laboratory on the world of Animis. This is traditional fantasy world alchemy--magical potions and elixirs and a bit of real world chemistry thrown in.

Centuries ago, the world of Animis was inhabited by mainstream humans. However, a nature-worshiping religion came to dominate the world's one super large continent. Each region adopted a different totem animal and the priesthood used their magic to infuse each region with powerful enchantments that slowly alter the inhabitants of each region to resemble their totem. People on Animis are born fully human, but as they grow up they slowly transform into anthropomorphic transhumans, the type depending on the region they call their home. Once they reach adulthood their transformation stops.

The changes are mostly cosmetic, with the transformed people still acting almost indistinguishably from normal humans. Occasionally though, some do develop more minor animal-like traits than just fur and a tail, the most common being an enhanced sense or two.

Dusty was born in the Rabbit Kingdom, and developed one of these enhanced senses as she was growing up. She has a very acute sense of smell, like many feral rabbits do. Its is this sense of smell that allows her (along with a very keen intellect) to mix and work with potions and chemicals with a precision that most human alchemists can't match. So even though she's relatively young for her profession she's highly sought after for her skill.

Dusty lives in a cottage away from most villages and towns, as her profession (and especially her many wild experiments) can at times make things quite..stinky, which would annoy any potential neighbors. She does live off a path which leads to a major trading road, however, and with signs and word of mouth she often gets more than enough customers to make ends meet.

Like most independent alchemists, most of her trade involves minor potions that address everyday needs. Her most common wares include healing elixirs, birth control droughts, love potions, libido enhancers, fertility potions, and the like, which get even more use in a kingdom of rabbit people than in a human one. She does experiment with and occasionally produces much more powerful potions, including ones that can create servant homonculi, which she sells at premium prices or just keeps around for her own defense or amusement.

This picture was done mostly as one of several character references; the pictures with some more of the actual story she's involved in will come later. The character's physique is modeled loosely on Dusty's real life figure, taken from self-sketches she was kind enough to share with me. Ink and colored pencil, 2012.
