Paul-Shanghai — Angelina 'The Lips' Jolie

Description Whilst I struggle to finish a couple of larger pieces, I am 'relaxing' by drawing some smaller pictures and attempting to increase the levels of 'realism' into my drawings.  

I didnt really need to put her name in the title, as no one on earth has lips this distinctive and dare I say it - sexy
The one the only Mrs Pitt, otherwise known as Angelina Jolie.  

Drawn on A4 Bristol Board a couple of hours each night after work - probably 8-10 hours work (Most of them on those lips!) using a HB and 8B traditional pencils along with a 4B mechanical pencil, my Tombo eraser and a blending stick.

Anymore realistic, and you'll be at electron microscope level! Awesome detail. Certainly the best choice of lips as well. They are just uniquely her aren't they?

Yes you are right, it is a great reference due to the size and detail available.  I have found that drawing large scale allows you to put more and more detail into a drawing, and then when you go back to smaller scale you can try and apply the same techniques - which in theory should lead to more realistic work

Something I've found through my own experience, too. Large scale always works better for detail freaks (like myself). What shading techniques do you use in your works?

The nose took about 30 secounds - the lips took about 30 days I agree it is a very realistic nose
