No, not an IDW cover this time. This is a special piece for the 100th issue of G-FAN Magazine (yes, I broke my "no fanzine" policy again- my bud Matt Frank asked and it was the 100th issue- sue me). Check out G-FAN here: [link]
The idea for this has been kicking around for a while, ever since I saw a gag on Facebook where someone took the poster art for GODZILLA VS. THE THING (which features G fighting off a mass of green tentacles- which is odd, b/c his enemy in the actual movie was Mothra) and replaced the title with "GODZILLA VS. CTHULHU". So that got me thinking how that might actually look if done "properly"- so here's 'Zilla throwing down with everybody's favorite Great Old One off the coast of Innsmouth.
I like to think the guy on the cliff is played by Jeffrey Combs. One guess what book he's holding.

Even in Base Cthulhu claimed to exist in a dimension so far beyond comprehension, the human mind censors him out. The Great Old Ones were said to know and influence all that happened in the universe before they were sealed away/began to slumber. Said to exist behind time and space.

I wasn't really aiming for any specific version (I don't really get hung up on that stuff the way most G-fans do)- but I guess the 2000 take was the main inspiration.

If you are talking about the book, read it again, he wasn't beaten by the boat, it just pass through him like his body was made of foam, it is said that the ancient ones aren't made of matter like mundane beings, often their bodies are describided as composed of an unkown slimy substance.

Cthulhu is basically a god, Godzilla is a freak of nature. Cthulhu hands down. Good job though.

I love both but Cthulhu wins because he literally can't die and he can spawn babies that can eat battleships,so his kids
will swarm Godzilla and devour also Cthulhu would shrug off G's nuke breath which is his deadliest weapon.
