Ahh the iconic 'Get Carter' pose, very nicely done. Your piece is pulp art, in the truest sense of the word (it's on cardboard after all).

Nice job!

this looks amazing!!!!
its really cool that you work on cardboard, but do you prime it with anything before you paint it? otherwise the paint wont last long, and it would be a shame to lose awesome pieces like this one.

I didnt do anything to it. What would you suggest priming it with?

thanks

well for painting in acrylic or oil i use gesso. you put a couple layers of it on whatever you want to paint and it will hold the paint for several hundred years. however, its opaque white so you wont be able to keep the color of the cardboard, which i think is a nice effect. if you ask at your local art supply store they might be able to recommend something transparent, i dont know of anything myself...but you can mix acrylic paint into the gesso to color it.
(i think I heard somewhere that untreated cardboard will only hold paint for a max of ten years or so, or even less depanding on the paint you use)
hope that helped!

Good job. I'm not enamored of the cardboard, the ribs show up too well and it (sorry) looks cheap, like you couldn't find a piece of paper to use.

However, it's exceptionally clean. It's a great shot and it's a great desision of what to put where. I love your use of positive and negative space too. Very nice.

I saw this on stencil revolution earlier today. When I saw the thumbnail, I asked myself, "Is that Michael Caine"? Sure enough...

Sweet. Faboo detail.

jeeeesus.

how long have you been cutting stencils?

everything you do is so detailed.. any tips?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paulieslim In reply to deaf-leopard [2005-07-02 21:58:01 +0000 UTC]

right on

I have been cutting stencils for nearly 8 months I'd say...

the best tips I have:

use spray adhesive to hold the stencil down
cut the stencils from somthing like transparency film or mylar film
make sure all your cuts are clean and straight (so the cuts make a 90 deg angle with the surface)

photoshop:
use a large image to create the stencil from
use the sharpen tool
use the shadow/highlight tool
