They DID try it. The updrafts were a horror.

There is a way around them. Extend the mooring mast upwards and install windblinds on the building side, and give the ship small vectorable bow thrusters somewhat forward of the gondola on the Zeppelin side.

yes and not much more needed to be done, Graf was the essence of the perfect airship as demonstrated by her wonderful career which did not end badly
