Description this is a touched up version of one of my earlier neglected scraps, based on the mjolnir armor design. Origionally it was green on green, but im a sucker for red

shading isnt too bad i would say, but the shines gave me a bit of trouble. i cant find much else wrong with it, so im pleased overall.

halo is copyright to bungie <- not quite sure if that was necessary

HALO-ish armor design, it's nice. But you can make the chest plate more defined, this chest plate here seems a little flat, perhaps you can give it some hard, rectangular edges to the two sides of the armor, so that it will look closer to the HALO suit.

Its not meant to be a carbon copy of the HALO suit, but i see what you mean, the chest is a bit flat.

I blame my lazyness xD.

Thanks for the constructive comment, i love comments like this.

I can see why the highlights gave you a bit of trouble (the Mjolnir armor is a nightmare to highlight properly)... and other than that I think you did a great job on the piece.

I usually despise filters by themselves, but you use it well, nice replication of the armor and just cool pic overall as well.

no prob but question what program did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paynefactor In reply to lightning46 [2006-01-28 03:44:29 +0000 UTC]

paint shop pro 7 for the black lines and photoshop for the coloring and background. Thats standard for all my pics

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lightning46 In reply to Paynefactor [2006-01-28 03:53:11 +0000 UTC]

how did you color them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paynefactor In reply to lightning46 [2006-01-28 04:01:39 +0000 UTC]

with the process i use, i just bucket fill. There are two outline layers, one of which is jagged and easy to fill, while the other is nice and clean and overlayes over the rough lines below. just bucket fill the layer with the rough lines.

after that you duplicate the color layer, switch it to either multiply or screen depending on if you are shading or adding light. heres a more in depth explanation...

lightning46 In reply to Paynefactor [2006-01-28 05:08:11 +0000 UTC]

wait you mean layers are (in order top to bottom)

the labeled one
original <--the one that is colored

?

dunno im confused and im not familiar with the pen tool XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paynefactor In reply to lightning46 [2006-01-28 05:20:12 +0000 UTC]

ok here an explanation of the layers. this is what it should look like when u add the outline in PSP7

1. Ink layer (blank layer)
2. layer 1 (original drawing)

Select the ink layer. Now select the drawing tool (also known as the pen tool). Set it to bezier curve, with a thickness of 3 or 4. Now just start to outline the sketch based on what you see. do this for the entire drawing. Use the eraser to clean it up so it looks good.

once you are done with the ink layer and it is all pretty and whatnot, copy the layer. Then go to the colors tab on the top of the screen. go to adjust, then to levels. set it to the numbers that are in the tutorial.

notice that the lines in whichever of the two ink layers you did that on are now ugly, but easy to bucket fill. Drag whichever layer is the pretty ink layer to the top. You can delete the origonal sketch now if you want.

save it as a PSD, then go over to photoshop and bucket fill the colors in. Watch out for gaps in the ugly lines, if you find them, close them with the pencil tool.

if you have questions or need clarification, just note me, ill try to help.

Paynefactor In reply to lightning46 [2006-01-28 22:36:32 +0000 UTC]

well you could always get limewire and download PSP7. Its about 40 megabytes. get the one that says paint shop pro 7 FULL, NOT the cracked one.

Dude. If that armor didn't look so heavy and if it had wing-holes I'd certainly tackle a whole Covenant armada in that! Kick-arse detail, dude, and I think the highlights are superfine (pronounced su-PAH-FAHne)! And I bet that tail's a handy lil' melee weapon as well. Brute Shot ain't got nothing on that spade!

Paynefactor In reply to Soaringdragon0 [2006-01-27 07:42:35 +0000 UTC]

lol i shudder to think how i would armor and vaccum seal wings. thats way beyond me.

thanks! remember these suits enhance the strength of the wearer, so they can be heavy, and the wearer dosent even notice. lol good luck funding an armada of these guys
