Description

Huge file, but I think it's worth it. I put in hours to create this pinup of an OC of mine. Base colours were done with Letraset markers (seen in the face and hair in the final version here) and textures come from kimono photos at Yahoo! Japan auctions, which is dead handy if you like that sort of thing.

FFFF. Thought I had commented on this awhile back. Ah well.

From Memory:

I really like how you did this, and the use of the textures is a really nice touch. But the JPEG noise of the outside of the main garmet is a little noticable, particularly the area to the right of the sash, it appears as if the source image had an overapplication of unsharp mask.

However, due to my VA being fractals and chaotic attractors, I tend to be a details Nazi, so YMMV, and it's a minor issue at worst.

Fav'd.

Yeah, it does look a bit grainy, thanks to my overstretching it... *sigh* But it was a new-ish technique for me then. Thanks for faving my recent work!

It certainly deserved it. As did this.

A trick I learned that minimizes the bad noise(distinct from good noise in that it's big and nonrandom) in an image is to apply a very subtle unsharp mask, then insert some HSV noise. The full process, if you want to tune it to perfection, takes a little more than five minutes. I sent something in notes.

Got it - I actually got some photographs of kimono fabrics from Yahoo! Japan's acutions, and they looked so gorgeous... But yeah, I 'll give your method a go next time, thank you very much for pointing it out!

Also, thank you very much for the chocolate, brushes and the fan: I got them nearly two weeks ago when I got back to Wales. They are awesome and I'm afraid to use them! BTW, hugely considering taking a chance to spend a year teaching English in Korea. What'cha think?

Yeah, they are beautiful. The hospital over here has a GIANT one hanging up on the wall. It's some of the most intricate threadwork I've ever seen.

And not problem. I only discovered it yesterday. I had just finished Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: The Movie - Lagann-hen(BECAUSE LONG NAMES ARE COOL. Seriously, though, why is it that long!?), and there was this one awesome scene that I wanted wallpaper of. The problem was, the source file was 720/480, and my desktop is 1680/1050. It wasn't pretty.

In regards to the brushes, I actually, I owe you an apology about that. I didn't know about inkstones, hence, the lack of one. BTW, the chocolate isn't just DMZ-themed, the beans were grown in the DMZ itself.

As for teaching English in Korea... I'm curious, when did that happen?

I'd say go for it though. Just find out weather or not you like kimchi beforehand.

I'd seen some ads for 'Teach English In Korea!' around Facebook, actually. My mother also mentioned that one of her workmates' son is going there through the EPIK program, which is government run. I have until the 16th June to apply, and need a minimum of a (my) BA degree plus sprachen ze englisch.

There have been a lot of future students coming around to our house and checking out my room (I won't be staying here next year), and it makes me think more and more about having a plan and escape route. My stay in Wales has gone pretty fast and I'm nearly killing myself to finish my work now. I'll miss it here, but I don't want to head straight back home after I finish, you know? I'll be stuck in the same old unemployed crappy housewifery routine. An opportunity to go to Korea looks very tasty right now.

Please elaborate on this kimchi and any socialising things I need to know!

Well, one clear benefit of going to Korea would be that they have the FASTEST internet in the world. The downside is, you will have zero, or close to zero anominity, and portions of the internet are censored there.

Kimchi = fermented cabbage = one of the MAJOR foods in Korea. Personally, I enjoyed to taste, but for some people the odor is neigh intolerable. As for etiquette, all I really know is that you can be up to thirty minutes late getting to someones house without causing offense, at least according to AFN(military TV channel. Replaces commercials with PSA's, one is a bunch of facts about good manners in various countries.)

I figured the plentiful internet, but censorship and monitoring? That sucks, but it's not like I have something to hide either.

Mmmm, fermented... I tire of the boiled stuff. Plus I need that extra bit of iron in my diet (been on supplements since March), so I wouldn't mind eating it. I tried sushi for the first time ever a month ago and I wasn't impressed... I'm no good with cold food. Random, yes, but I like to try different international foods.

Ordered by increasing anonymity, freenet is a standout in that it is not used for accessing the regular internet, but rather for accessing a highly encrypted completely anonymous darknet. I actually have a site there: USK@ad06vXBaoNKX~zLOogb~tvoKuVqeUbOfzGXVzq~KUeg,YmapA244oXCmx9GqlCa4LRKg1dW~1Bq2YaKWlnpZq5c,AQACAAE/cnpzrftbp/-1

It's dedicated to physics games.

Yeah, sushi is really overhyped(except for calamari, which is almost like seaood jerky.). Udon, Soba, and Miso are to die for, though.

Try Thai curry. Provided it's well made, it's to die for IMO.

I loves my noodles dishes, I do, including miso. I love the Chilli Chicken Ramen they make in Yamamori Sushi/Noodles, in Dublin (my only 'local' source of Japanese food I know of).

Speaking of internet and freedom of speech foibles, check out the details for this video I made hours ago. [link] That attempted flagging within minutes really f**ked me off.

Hah, that's Youtube for you. Copyright trolls EVERYWHERE. [link] looks at what the internet seems to be heading towards. It's EU centric, but something like this happening in the US and elsewhere is just a matter of time unless people stand up to stop it.

You should ask if that restaurant can make Chashuwantanmen next time you go. It's one of the best ramen dishes that my mouth has had the honor of tasting.

......

That video is a YTP, really. Ha, China protecting its democracy through censorship! And the money should go towards this internet security rather than saving victims! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU

Handy that the biggest loli-hosting 'third world servers' are based in the U.S. and ONE OF THE FOUNDING COUNTRIES OF THE EU *pukes blood forever*

Speaking of Asian food, I think I'll order out tonight, I'm sick of trying to find stuff in the house to eat. Tried a search on your special ramen, but couldn't find info on it. I'm hungry now, thanks a lot!!

Vitia-Dei In reply to peannlui [2010-05-07 08:40:03 +0000 UTC]

Eh wot? YTP? Only acronym I can think of makes no sense(YouTube Poop. No sense, because the video is based on an actual proposition in the EU government.), so please, if I was wrong, elucidate.

In China, the slang for having your website removed or censored is "harmonized", as in "my blog was harmonized". And yeah, those statistics are depressing as hell. I had expected the majority to be hosted in Russia, given it's somewhat infamous reputation. It was a hell of a bitter pill to swallow that The US took the lead in that respect.

Sorry If I ruined your mood. rrange: (Officially, the fruit of regret is the apple, but all DA has is the orange, and I think grapes. And grapes are wrath.)

I'll send you info on the ramen.

Yes, Youtube Poop. I've gotten hooked on it since October-ish.

Listen, I think the initiative is too full of shit to have a video with the wrong info matching the script. Government 'ideas' last a lesser time than internet lockdowns some of the time (there's been a national election here since yesterday after only three years of Gordon Brown, PM), so end of subject. (Popped the news and video on my Facebook and it got some laughs...)

Food sounds good about now!

Thank you for dropping by! Yeah, I liked how this turned out so I'm planning a second, which I might submit here and elsewhere after I get home for Xmas. I've 'til now spent 90% of my time creating/writing for college-related projects since I returned to study...

So glad you like it! I need a push to make more finished-looking art like (and better) than this during the New Year!

How long did it take you to do this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peannlui In reply to Lauren-Tyler [2009-12-16 22:38:30 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... it took me nearly two hours solid last night to do the drawing, inking and markering. Then today it collectively took me an hour to quickly make flat blocks of colour over the scanned drawing in Photoshop, then with Clipping masks I sorted out the textures then and there...

So, two hours and a bit?

Lauren-Tyler In reply to peannlui [2009-12-17 05:07:31 +0000 UTC]

Two hours and a bit? Then why does it feel like it takes me forever to work at something and have it come out the right way?

I've had years of practice and discipline behind me; it doesn't matter about the amount of time you put in, but the work. This example is intended to be a prototype really - it's not perfect, but I'm showing myself what can be done.
