I always wondered why this company kept her sidelined all these years.

he-hem... Jessica Rabbit is Warner Brothers... not Disney... that's like saying bugs bunny is disney.

Since she was created by writer Gary Wolf in his novel 'Who Censored Roger Rabbit?' and Disney bought the rights to that book, I think it's safe to say this version of her is a Disney character.
Warner Brothers never created her nor did they buy the rights to own her.

They'd never let Jessica be a Disney Princess. She'd make the others develop complexes.

Lovely, of course, I feel she wouldn't be a Disney Princess as much as a Disney Goddess.

it's because nobody liked pocahontas XD she didn't have money.
and mulan's man was high in the aristocracy. it was basically royalty (although no, it makes no sense)

i love it!!
claro ke no puede ser una princesa las princesas son bobas y confiadas y no pueden demostrar la independencia y sensualidad de jessica, una mujer mas "real" (en actitud, no tanto en proporciones jaja)

VespertineSun [2009-03-02 20:39:33 +0000 UTC]
The biggest reason they'd never allow her to be a princess is because of her proportions. They're too unrealistic for Disney to want to promote her--and Jessica Rabbit is pretty much defined by her proportions.

Pechan In reply to VespertineSun [2009-03-03 01:55:23 +0000 UTC]
true, but the same can be said about princess jasmine and ariel. maybe not as exaggerated, but totally unrealistic in everyway. if anything disney won't make jessica a princess because of her blatant sex appeal. which is fine, i wouldn't want kids dressing up as jessica.
though princess jasmine is pretty revealing, what with her bare shoulders and cleavage and belly button.

VespertineSun In reply to Pechan [2009-03-03 02:35:05 +0000 UTC]
Well, the extra exaggeration is what put Jessica over that line. Further renditions of Ariel and Jasmine (not only pictures, but toys as well) can be slightly altered to appear more "realistic" and therefore, more approved for young girls. If Jessica's figure were to be altered to the extent it would need to be to be deemed acceptable for young girls, it would take away a lot of her initial appeal and character.
Also, that whole being sexy thing certainly doesn't hurt.
And notice that in the child Jasmine costumes, the "bare" midriff is actually vaguely flesh colored cloth.

Pechan In reply to VespertineSun [2009-03-06 05:12:43 +0000 UTC]
yeah. the ariel characters at disneyland parks used to just wear seashell bras but alot of parents got into hissy fits and changed it into flesh colored tank and seashells. its not like little kids don't understand ariel was wearing practically nothing...
but i don't fault disney. people nowadays are ruffled by anything so they're playing it right and safe for them.

Yes. If not for the fact that intellectual property laws are crazier and harder to keep a handle on than Toontown itself, I could really picture Jessica like this. However, what really amuses me is the suspicious look in her eyes... er... eye. I'm a bit of an amateur writer, and this picture gives me a vibe of "she dresses up for an awards ceremony, but while she's there, she sees someone suspicious and decides to follow him..." And so it goes. You can almost smell the curious tension in this picture. Well done.

Wasnt she Warner Brothers? I remember her in that movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit...was that Disney?

Pechan In reply to LemoTheLemon [2008-05-06 04:26:40 +0000 UTC]
she was a character made JUST for teh movie, but disney owns the rights to her since disney put more money into the movie i guess.
plus i see who framed roger merchandise in disneyland all the time, but not a speck of it in Universal Studios or Six Flags, and those them parks showcase WB stuff liek crazy.

heh awesome picture!
and she prolly not a princess, cuz disney doesn't want little girls aspiring to be like her, otherwise people would say things like hey our trying to turn my duaghter into a slut! then again nobody prolly would, i mean look at how much those F****** Bratz dollz get away with...
Though Jessica is way kewler than most of the princesses, oh well, i geuss that just means she'll have to be a category all by herself eh?

Pechan In reply to Veildandy [2008-05-06 03:40:50 +0000 UTC]
probably. it';s not that jessica was a slut, she DID do the right thing and figured out doom was going to destroy toon town before anyone else and was the first one to try n stop him. she's plenty smart. and what little girl WOULDN'T want to be a sexy crime solving dame? ;D lol.
and jasmine and 16 yr old ariel show lots fo cleavage anyways. lol.

Veildandy In reply to Pechan [2008-05-06 22:05:02 +0000 UTC]
yeah i know, alot of them looked sluttyish... in a nice way for the most part. And umm i agree with what girls wouldnt wanna be crime fighting dames i think thatd be awesomeness, but disney seemed to like their girls more submissive, and well just looking for their prince and thats it, ya know what i mean?
Disney didnt portray their princesses as smart for the most part... I mean Belle liked to read, but she was thought of as weird for that quirk. I mean seriously Disney likes them to cook and clean, look pretty and sing well... and thats about it...
wonderful role models eh?
xD

Jessica Rabbit wasn't Disney. They got the rights to put Disney characters in the movie and funded it but techniquically Disney didn't make the film.
Anyway, Jessica Rabbit is probably one of my favorite Damsels next to Betty Boop. And you can tell how much you love her because you drew her so well. Awesome as always.
