A piece I did for this year's Southern California Review, which I'm now allowed to post online.I'm developing an idea for a graphic novel in this style.

When I was a kid, I always vacationed in Florida, I and took palm trees as a "Yes" to my "Are we there yet?" This is a nice comic, but it's also really deep emotionally speaking. I love it.

Heh. It's funny. I come from the Midwest and also associated Palm trees with vacations. But as we only ever went to California to visit my dad's family, I wouldn't say they're pleasant associations.

It's a neat piece of history, except for the part about crashing. (Glad you weren't hurt.) Still, nice insight into the kind of thoughts we all have when there doesn't seem to be much else to hold onto. Those are interesting (and revealing?) choices for character designs of you and your sister. It looks great too, of course, and I think I can feel the moods throughout.

It's fun when insight is just saying what happened. Maybe that's the key.

Those are in fact two of my favorite things.
I grew up in Australia, I've had my fill sunshine and hot summers.
