All of us rushed to the scene, my friends and Venus. All hell had broken loose. The hunters were tossed into the fray, led by Scaeden and Ben, our leader and silver. Venus and I managed to stick together for most of it. Towards the end we were separated by massive bodies and confusion.

I can't remember what happened up until I heard Venus and Andra cry out for help at the same time. I chose Venus over Andra, and I still question what would have happened if I hadn't today. Venus was pinned down, bloodied and beaten, while a defector stood over her. I leapt to the scene, forgetting my training and abilities, running on instinct. The defector was faster than I expected however, and with one twist of their neck, my scruff and shoulders were in its jaws, and I was tossed aside, armor clanking. In the defector's distracted state, Venus wiggled free and lunged up in an attempt to snap her jaws on the defectors throat. But with one swipe of a paw, there was a sickening crack, and Venus lay limp as the defector turned and ran.

It's not like what happens in the tragedies, where the hero gets one last word with his love as she dies in his arms. By the time I reached her, nothing of Venus was in that corpse. Except, of course, on small, broken owl feather.
