Another quickie Star Wars pic - work is still beating up on me, but this coming weekend is the last big one of the season, and after that things should calm down a bit.

Ackbar was the only Star Wars figure I had as a kid
not because I was underprivileged or something, I just grew up during that small window of the 80’s when Star Wars wasn’t a thing (no more movies in theaters, no VCR’s yet...) so I had no need for Star Wars figures, my dad bought him for me at Kay-Bee out of a bin of loose figures (the last of the ’Return of the Jedi’ stock I’d imagine given the time frame) for a dollar (and buying a figure for a dollar at a Kay-Bee is the modern equivalent of saying “I used to buy a phosphate for a nickel at the soda jerk’s!”)
So I guess what I’m getting at is, Admiral Ackbar is unironically my favorite Star Wars character, good job drawing him!

I was right on the tail end of Star Wars toys - Return of the Jedi was the first movie I saw in the theater (the Coronet on Geary, which is long since gone). I was really too young to understand what I was watching, but I remember I liked it in principal, the experience was really cool (and loud). I never had an Admiral Ackbar figure though - although to be fair the full collection was like 200 figures so I didn't have the big majority of them. (I did have - and still do in a box somewhere - a Greedo and Ponda Baba, which is why they appear here as well).
I do like Ackbar a lot as a character because he shows that while the Empire was basically all British guys, the Rebellion was open to (and accepting of) all right thinking types, be they human or fish men, or whatever Nien Numb is supposed to be. Which I think was the point in some ways. What was more of an accident is that, because of the limits of animating their masks the Mon Calamari all have these sort of pleasant smiles, and along with their googly eyes they really don't look like they should be fighting a war. So you have to ask yourself, how bad is the Empire that this group of otherwise friendly fish men would be compelled to fight? Very bad indeed.
So I can't really say I necessarily have a single favorite Star Wars character, but Admiral Ackbar's definitely one of my favorites.
