I grew up visiting this beauty many times as a kid. She has a great service history and is a very interesting museum to check out.
USS Lexington (aka Lady Lex or The Blue Ghost) was in service 40 years (from 1943 to 1991 with a brief decommission period from 1947-1955) making her the longest serving Essex Class Carrier in the world. She participated in nearly every major operation of the Pacific Theater during WWII and was nicknamed Blue Ghost by the Japanese as she was reportedly "sunk" and returned at least 4 times.
