Oh, poor Mary, I really liked her.
I was hoping that this would be the first chapter of a novel so I could read more about her

I don't get around to reading the literature DDs as often as I'd like, but this one caught my attention from the very first sentence. One sentence in, it had already painted a unique picture and captured my interest. After that, I was impressed by all the funny descriptions of the characters, and how you seamlessly wove them into the story. The ending caught me by surprise, and at first I thought she was having a heart attack. Although after I figured out what was going on, I admired your ability to smoothly transition from The protagonist thinking about weight loss to her remembering fond moments with Ben to her showing unexpected emotion over his death.
One small correction: Spanx is a name brand and should be capitalized.

Firstly, congratulations on the DD! Your writing is humorous while simultaneously conveying the depth of tangled emotions and the gravity of the situation. Well done.

"As she cried a part of her couldn't help speculate about the calories she was burning with her inexplicable tears. But mostly she thought about Ben."
By god, how that one sentence is able to summarise everything I loved about this piece. Funny and eccentric, yet strangly tragic. Bravo to you.

this is really sad but you managed to keep it light, and even as an amateur reader/writer i can appreciate the contrast it created

I can sympathize with Mary's plight and yes, I've done a few things like scrunch my underwear without even trying. You're welcome.
