Description Renee's breath rose in steaming clouds from between her lips, her mouth exposed only a fraction above the thick woolen scarf wrapped about her throat. Her beanie nestled atop the fringe of her faintly frosted glasses as the sound of her boots crunched merrily through the snow. The wind had picked up in the fading light of dusk, causing her hair to flutter in the breeze along with the tails of her coat.

The veritable armoury of warm clothes she'd adorned herself with were doing a valiant job of shielding her against the chill, though she was still keen to find herself somewhere a bit less exposed. Settled in an alcove by the entrance to the nearby supermarket, she could see a pot-bellied, ruddy-faced man in a false white beard sitting by a donation pot, his Santa-costume woefully ill equipped to handle the weather.

Digging into her pockets for any loose change, Renee paused by the fellow to toss a mitten-full of coins into the pot, eliciting a stiff nod from Santa.

"Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!" He said with a voice cheerfully defiant of the cold. Renee merely smiled in response as she ducked inside the shopping complex. A blast of heat washed over her and she practically melted with relief on the spot, her shoulders slumping as she tugged the scarf down off her chin and gave her glasses a quick wipe-down.

Glancing about to make sure nobody was looking too intently in her direction, she casually removed the mittens from her hands, tucked one neatly down the back of her leggings and fished about between her plump buttocks. Within a moment she'd located her half-pint housemate, pinching her carefully around the waist and plucking her out into the open. Cora blanched at the sudden exposure, the onslaught of sound, light and fresh air bringing a scrunched expression of distaste to her face.

"Ack! Why do I have to be out here? Can't you handle this business while I stay downstairs?"

"Nope; you've gotta be up here with me Squirt. How else are you gonna see what stuff you want to pick out?"

"Renee, darling, there's this thing called 'the Internet'..."

"And?"

"... and you can do all sorts of cool things, like look up things you want to buy and have them delivered right to your door! Without having to leave your house even!"

"Without having to leave my ass you mean?"

"Is there a difference?"

Renee shrugged, popping the grumbling tiny on her shoulder in the gap between her scarf and her neck.

"Well too bad; you don't get to experience the festive cheer if you sit inside and do everything from behind a screen."

Cora cocked an eyebrow and looked about at the teeming crowds, the endless lines, the shouting staff and the security guards watching like hawks for people trying to shoplift.

"Oh yeah; I can just feel the good-will pumping through my veins already."

"Oh hush." Renee chuckled, strolling into the nearby toy-shop. "Besides, can you get this at home?" She gestured with both hands at the absolutely monolithic display in the middle of the shop. Each year she came into this shop around Christmas specifically to see what they'd come up with, to rekindle that spark of child-like wonder she'd felt as a little girl. This year they'd gone with an insanely intricate train-set, filled with endlessly looping locomotives dragging any number of carriages behind them. A veritable mountain of miniature terrain had been created that reached from the floor right up to the ceiling, dozens of tracks, roads and little cities that bustled with motion.

"Yeah, yeah, okay..." Cora agreed dismissively, pretending like she didn't actually quite like the look of the display. "It's not bad; shame you can't just sit on it though."

"Heh, I don't think the staff would be too happy with me leaving a butt-shaped crater in their display; this is meant to be fun for all ages after all."

"Pfft, you can pay to have it all replaced right? Model trains are cheap, right?"

Renee didn't dignify the comment with a response, bending over to examine each little detail as she shuffled gradually around, drinking in the sight of it. Cora, for her part, was content to watch the people more than the display. Normal-humans really did just take their world for granted; not bothering to watch where they walked, where they sat, who they were barging into... If tiny-folk were more common she imagined it'd be a little different, but their intense minority meant that your average shopper wouldn't be likely to check their feet to see if anyone was stuck to them.

As her hulking housemate bent still further to peer into one of the tunnels as one of the model trains trundled through it, Cora subconsciously adjusted her posture to keep from slipping off, one arm hooked over the enormous scarf as she spotted one of the store clerks; a pale-skinned, red-haired young woman with wavy curls and an uncertain expression on her face. The lady's gaze was fastened firmly on Renee's backside, her trembling hands paused mid-way through wrapping a present.

Narrowing her eyes, Cora waved her hand sharply, drawing the attention of the clerk for a moment. She pointed two fingers at her own eyes, then turned her hand to point at the clerk before curling her hand into a fist and shaking it in warning. The clerk's cheeks went faintly pink as she looked swiftly down at the present, focusing ruthlessly on her task as Cora nodded.

"Yeeeaaah you better run; nobody me-" The tiny was cut-off midway through the sentence as she felt Renee's fingers on her waist again, hoisting her off her housemate's shoulder and onto the back of one of the moving trains.

"Hey; tell me where that tunnel goes, it looks like there's lights in there!" Renee said eagerly, watching as Cora tried to balance herself on the rolling caboose. The bug-sized beautician's tiny hands clamped onto the railing as the train chugged merrily into the vast plastic mountain-tunnel, engulfing her momentarily in darkness.

After a couple of seconds, a light did indeed appear in Cora's vision; a single, tiny amber bulb that lit up a door in the side of the tunnel. She might have thought that it was just another aesthetic decoration - except that the door was ajar. Dropping carefully down off the moving train onto the tracks, Cora walked briskly-but-cautiously over to the door, placing her palm on it and giving a gentle push.

With a creak of plastic hinges, the thing swung open to reveal something she certainly hadn't expected to see that day.

"Uh, g'day." The woman greeted, peering down at Cora from atop the rolling ladder. Cora just stood there, staring in genuine bafflement at the oddly-dressed little lady. Well, 'little' might have been a stretch; even if the wider-world would've referred to the woman as another 'tiny' like Cora, she was still well over double Cora's height. Her thick, curvaceous figure was clad in the kind of stereotypical doll outfit one might associate with Santa's elves; all pastel-coloured patchwork, over-sized buttons and jingling bells adorning the tips of her curled shoes.

When Cora didn't respond, the lady sighed and climbed carefully down the ladder, her flared skirt showing off more than a little of her ample posterior. The beautician drank in a little more of the little room, noticing the electric tools, the note-books, the pieces of broken toys scattered about.

"Oh uh... Hey," Cora finally responded, stepping through into the room "so, what're you? Mechanic?"

"Something like that; someone's gotta keep these dioramas running, and it's not like any of them upstairs are gonna manage it." The larger lady shrugged, depositing a schematic manual on her desk before stepping around to properly greet Cora. "I imagine I'm probably supposed to tell you 'this is a staff only area' or some rubbish, but honestly who cares, right?" She extended a hand, which Cora took and shook casually. "Welcome to the shop; the name's Monique, my friends call me Mini."

"Cora; my friend calls me Cora... and Squirt... and a bunch of other names." The beautician said, taking a step back so she didn't have to crane her head too hard to look up at the enormous tiny. Contrary to popular belief, there was no singular 'size' for the tiny-folk; they tended to fluctuate wildly. Cora fell on the shorter end of the spectrum, while this lady seemed to have been blessed with a bigger frame.

"Cora? I think I've heard of you... You did the make-up for one of my favourite bands, right?"

"Probably, that is my job."

"Cool; nice to meet you! What brings you to my little cave?"

"My housemate is busy fangirling over the display and she saw your porch-light, so she sent me in to check it out."

"Makes sense; is your housemate also a tiny? Or..."

"Nah, she's a normal; cool lady though."

"Oh wow! I thought I was the only one," Monique chuckled as she folded her arms beneath her jiggling bust, "you don't hear of many little-folk living with bigguns these days... Not willingly anyway. What does she do?"

"She's... a model." Cora said discreetly, deliberately avoiding the specifics.

"Neat! I reckon my housemate could make a decent model; she's got that graceful, elvish quality if you know what I mean... She thinks she'd suck at it 'cause she has a bigger butt than normal, but I keep telling her that's exactly why she should be a model."

"OH MY GOD, right?!" Cora exclaimed, making an 'explosion' gesture from her temple outwards. "It's like, they don't realize that bigger is actually better."

"Truth. I probably shouldn't be talking about my house-mate's ass with a total stranger though now that I think of it."

"Pfft, nah it's all good; I do the same thing all the time... What does your biggun do for work?"

"Oh she works here too; I got her the job here. She's not the brightest spark in the world, but she's sweet enough and she's a hard worker. Easily distracted though."

"Wait... She got red-hair?"

"Yeah, that's the one; you met her already?"

"Sort-of." Cora said, coughing awkwardly as she quickly changed the subject. "So, I should probably get going; don't wanna interrupt your work and everything, and big-lady will probably get worried if I don't come back out of the tunnel."

"Probably sensible; feel free to pop by again if you find yourself in the area! Oh..." Monique turned on the spot, strolling over to her desk in a manner Cora found decidedly pleasing to the eye, "here! Give this code to the ladies at the counter if you two decide to buy something; it's my Staff Discount... Tell 'em Mini gives her blessing."

"Cheers big-lady." The beautician smiled, accepting the scrap of paper and stuffing it into her pocket.

"Ha, 'big-lady', never been called that before. I like the sound of it."

"Well you are pretty friggin huge. Jesus; your butt's as big as my entire torso."

Monique's cheeks went as red as her Santa-hat as she grinned. Surprised as she evidently was, she didn't seem displeased by the comment either; a fact Cora noted for future reference.

"You flatter me. Now go on; your friend is probably waiting for you."

"Peace." Cora said, opening the door as the next train trundled past. Stepping up onto the rear-carriage, she gave a quick wave as the caboose carried her away into the light of the store once more.

"Oh hey!" Renee said brightly, squatting by the edge of the tunnel exit and holding out her open palms for her housemate. Cora jumped off onto the giant's hands and flopped down on her back. "So, what was it?"

"Just the staff break-room; nothing too fancy."

Renee chuckled, not entirely sure if Cora was joking or not as she rose to her feet, tucking the little lady back in the collar of her scarf.

"Sounds good; shall we move on?"

"Naaahh, let's pick out something for you for a present; gotta shout some sweet gifts for my girl Neh."

The gigantic geek's cheeks flushed happily as she smiled. 'Three for three; I've still got it.' Cora thought.

"Alright then! Let's take a look and see what we can find..."

Now this I appreciate. I've been watching from the shadows since we first talked, and while your writing is very well done I've not had anything that was entirely up my alley.

This, however, is very interesting to me. It's more of a lighthearted slice of life in a world that just happens to have people at varying scales, rather than focusing entirely on said difference in scale. There's even some worldbuilding!

Haha, you might enjoy some of the other Renee and Cora stories; a lot of them are just slice of life stuff.

But there will be more stuff from the two of them - have no doubt ^.^

Glad you liked it!

Great work, Shift! Very interesting to see another tiny in Cora and Renee's world. Must be an interesting place with such a wide variety of size in tiny people. Doesn't hurt that they can be dressed like adorable little elves either. Bravo!
