Description In honor of the Royal Wedding, I wanted to paint a portrait of the blushing bride, Cadence. I may or may not do Shining Armour too. Right now I'm leaning towards not, but maybe I'll get inspired after the wedding.

Not too happy with the frame--any suggestions?

Edit: Changed the background. It looks much better now!

Thanks! It looks...what's the word? Lighter? Airier? Bah, it just looks better.

She's so pretty! Nothing to add that I haven't already, although I do like the scroll work around the borders. Idk how I'd fabricate a frame I guess you could do a simple wood grain frame, maybe try to simulate beveled or frosted glass with translucent layers...or just leave it. Cuz it looks pretty good as it is Whatever you think. I really like the way you're painting these ponies of late!

When I first started, I imagined it being in an oval-shaped frame, then changed my mind and tried to make a rectangular gold frame with scroll work and such, but thought it detracted from the picture, so subtracted the frame and left the scroll work, which left me with...this. So in short, I have no idea what I want or what would look good with it. Per SimonJeanetteFAN's suggestion, I'm gonna lighten up the design and make it more golden looking. Maybe that'll help. I've actually tried to do the "glass" look on other pieces, but it always comes off as an annoying smear instead of a clear, reflective surface.

But yeah, thanks as always! It didn't really come together exactly like I'd imagined (it always looks better in my head). I'm still not pleased with the overall composition, but I do like how she came out. I wanted to have her come across as more of a woman than an older teen (or however old she's supposed to be), with that quiet, inner confidence shining through in a sultry sort of way. OH, and I did try painting her 'other eye,' but it just came out googly. We can safely chalk that up to a lack of skill on my part, but I'm still pleased. I think just having the one visible eye adds focus.

Her color scheme has grown on me, too.

Err, actually I guess they're having a unicorn party...that would make more sense...

But we can still come over to play too, right?

Of course! Sugar Grape is the only pegasus I have, she must be lonely

so I'm shipping her with Pepperdance

Yea, I think you' have every reason to be pleased! Heh, I think her colors looks regal but feminine. I tend to like pastels and bright colors. Always like Lyra's colors too. Got my Lyra blind-bag figurine in the mail today. She and Twilight are having a pegasus party on my desk. Also, I'm a 10 year old girl.

Nice hmm...I think the frame should come out more from the pic, because there's so much red and pink so it needs some more green I guess. Like Yellow and purple. They are complementary colors so yellow helps to (i have no idea what word to use...) accentuate/emphasize/highlight purple and purple does the same for yellow. (I hope you understood )

That makes sense--if I lighten up the design, make it more yellow-ish instead of muddy gold, it should 'pop' more. I'm terrible at color theory, knowing what colors go well with each other and whatnot. I had a terrible time trying to pick a background color that suited her. I'll play around with that and probably upload a new version afterwards. Thanks for the help!
