This is Arthur from Mystery Skulls Animated~!

Don't know what that is? Then you need to go here, right now, because if you are the type to read descriptions all the way through, you're going to end up with spoilers, and head-cannon territory. XD It's less than five minutes long, so it won't take up too much of your time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlEb3L…

If you do know what Mystery Skulls Animated is...what are you hanging around here for? Go watch that amazing music video again!

Have watched it but don't understand? Go here for the best explanation of what the hay was going on, though I will tell you right now that it to eventually delves onto head-cannon, but I'll give my head-cannon on Arthur in a minute. ^^: remingtonv.tumblr.com/post/101…

Anyways, this was inspired by a Mystery Skulls roleplay I've been doing with my friend and in one of the scenes, Arthur takes heed of the 'flying knives' rumor in the kitchen of a haunted diner, and so, to defend himself, he improvised with what he could reach, hence the wok helmet, pasta strainer shield...and the ladle sword. XD Sorry, there weren't any knives in reach. XD Sadly, he didn't actually fight the ghost in our roleplay, but he did keep the shield for a little bit. *I'm tempted to have him use that armor again and actually fight in it though XD *

If you're interested in the roleplay, the first chapter is here: Mystery Skulls - Revival - Chapter 1

Also, Arthur, and all of Mystery Skulls Animated belong to MysteryBen, and I highly recommend following his Tumblr as he's actually going to continue the story, PLUS, he's added more characters that haven't shown up in the video. You can get to his Tumblr here: mysterybensmysteryblog.tumblr.…

The Agony of Drawing this Picture Section

I...still can't believe how well this turned out, I mean, if you look at this gallery...you can tell this is much better than most--if not all--of my other art. It's just...there's something about these characters that just makes me guilty if I don't put everything into them. I refuse to upload a MSA picture that matches my lower quality pictures. I shall not do so, because...let's face it, Mystery Skulls deserves better than that. XD Originally, I wasn't quite sure if I was even going to finish it. I had some free time, and thought I'd give it a shot, because I knew, as soon as we did the scene, that I wanted to draw the 'Kitchen Knight', and surprisingly...the pose was exactly what I wanted...which almost never happens when I draw something. XD Though I did end up adjusting the wok as it originally lowered enough that it covered his eyebrows fully...which oddly changed his expression. So I raised it so I could keep the expression you see there~ *It didn't seem as strong when the Wok was lowered further down*

I also only intended to just draw Arthur with a simple background, but after I finally got his line-art done, I realized I had a lot of room left-over...now I could have just shrank the canvas, or scaled Arthur to a large size to take up more of it, but then...I got the idea for the ghost to attack each part of his 'armor'. So that gave us the flying bowl to the helmet, the knife to his shield, and the pizza cutter to his sword.

I will say it took two days *On and off as I only worked on this in the evenings* to get Arthur's line-art fully done, but I do like his sketch design, as his body is made out of three rectangles. *Unlike Lewis's freaking weird triangle body that I fail miserably at drawing right now XD * It was rather awesome to see a simple sketch slowly morph into Arthur, but let me tell you, his right hand...GEEZ that hand! I still do not like hands! XD Curse thee hands...

Drawing his armor, and all the weapons, plus the background didn't take too long, and base coloring wasn't too hard, but texturing the background..... *Moan* I may have learned several new tricks for doing backgrounds, but that took at least two hours to do. XD Though that may seem short to some people, that's a record for me. I can be so patient with some things...but my own art isn't one of them. I have a bad habit of wanting what's in my head to show up in under five minutes...isn't going to happen. XD

Though after I did the background and started putting detail on Arthur, I quickly learned something along with my friend...my style didn't quite work with MSA's. Arthur came out so blurry that I had to go back to his base colors, and re-ink his line art with the black lines, and avoid blurring him like I usually did with my art. In the end, the picture became a hybrid of my style, and the animation's. The background was fully in my style, devoid of black lines and was what I believe others call 'cell-shading'...sorry, I'm not good with art terms. XD I never liked black lines, or any outlines on my characters, so that's why I chose that other style. Plus, I liked shading and 'texturing' hair and clothes.

As you can see with Arthur, it's definitely a hybrid. He does have the animation's black lines, but he doesn't have a black outline like he does in the animation, and he does have my shading techniques. This hybrid eventually ended up applying to everything in the foreground, so the ghost's weapons, and Arthur's attire ending up with the hybrid status. It was a little out of my comfort zone, but I think the end result was definitely worth it.

Though with this picture, I did stumble upon many other things that GIMP can do. Some of them were helpful, like the fog texture I used on the wall and the floor, and the motion blur on the bowl and knife. Others.....not so much. Filters - Artistic, I'm looking at you and your false promises of Clothify, Glass, and Marbled! I...tried so many things to get unique textures for the background...Noise was useful...but just about everything in Artistic failed me. XD And I tried all of the things in Artistic. ...so much Control Z...bless whoever invented Control Z.

I'm not too happy with the metal sparks with the knife and shield though. I tried to look up a tutorial, but I think I was searching for it wrong, because I couldn't find any...for digital art anyways, there seemed to be a few for CG animation...which, while I'm interested, I have nearly zero skill in that area. *Though I would like to have some, I love CG animation* Though, while the metal sparks didn't out that well, the ghost glow did~ I love it~ Though it took a few tries, first I tried the magic aura that I see in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic , but when that didn't work, I tried Green Lantern's glow style...and then I tried a few of my own, and finally got this one....and oddly, it's the easiest method of the bunch too. XD Typical luck. Try the hard things first for the one time it's the easy way that's the right way.

This picture is not perfect, but compared to my other stuff...I still can't believe this is all mine, but I'm happy that it is.

Though, it wouldn't be as half as good as it is now without She got to see it go from simple sketches to a full off picture. She was also there to bop me on the head every time she caught me cutting corners. My head is sore, and I'm seeing double, but it was totally worth it~! ...I should have her do this more often so that I don't allow as many monstrosities get into my gallery. X3 So thank you Thil, you helped the Kitchen Knight look awesome~

Beware: This is the Head-Cannon full of Opinions and Fan-Girling Section

Yes, I agree that Arthur's jealousy is what had him possessed, however, I don't think he was jealous that Vivi's affections were for Lewis. I think he was jealous of the fact they were in a relationship, and he wasn't, which is a bit different. Arthur obviously regretted what happened that night in the cave, and probably does feel guilty for it. In 's and my head-cannon, Arthur was fully for their relationship, but as they continued to get closer, Arthur felt like was being pushed out of their ring of friendship, and then felt like a third-wheel that was only there in case the van broke down. We can tell he isn't selfish by two actions in the video:

One: At the end of the video, he pulls Vivi away from Lewis---not to separate them, but because he thought Vivi was in danger. *He had spent the rest of the video running for his life, the action was warranted* Arthur could have easily fled out of the mansion while Vivi took the supposed 'attack', but he didn't. He stayed, and then took the time to approach her AND Lewis, to grab her and run for it.

Two: He still goes on freaking investigations. Now, if you lost a friend, and your arm, all in one night on one of those things, would you really keep going for a girl's/guy's affections...no. However, I think Arthur knew Vivi would go alone if he didn't come along, and that means there would be no one to protect her. Arthur kept going to keep her safe, because he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if something happened to her. And that's what I like about this character.

Arthur may be a scardey-cat, but I think that in the entire group, he is the bravest member. Yes, he's easily spooked, but he will face those fears. He went into that cave despite being afraid, and he went into that mansion despite all the ghosts and ghouls, and even took the time to save Vivi. Arthur...is, in my opinion, a perfect representation of loyalty. He will be there for his friends, no matter what. Even if it costs him an arm and a leg---which has already happened with the arm. Arthur lost his arm, but he still keeps going despite obvious danger. I'm sure he'd even take a bullet for his friends, and I think, at this point, he feels he owes Lewis that much. Even if he and Vivi will always be nothing more than friends, Arthur will give everything to protect her, because that was what Lewis would have wanted...and it is what Lewis would have done.

I also think that Arthur has it just as bad as Lewis. Arthur has to carry the weight of killing his friend forever . Apologizing to Lewis, or Lewis actually forgiving him is not going to fix it. Arthur may not have wanted Lewis to die, but his insecurities and jealousy allowed it to happen, and while it was the ghoul that did it...Lewis is always going to relate Arthur to his murder, because that's who he saw. The ghoul didn't just use Arthur's arm...it used his face as well.

Yet, I can see Arthur trying to fix the relationship if Lewis didn't go haywire with trying to kill him because of the misunderstanding. Arthur might hit rock bottom a lot, but he seems to be the type that will get back up every time...even if he rises slower than other times he gets shoved down. Though, that's just the way he's developing as a character in our roleplay. o.o Honestly, Lewis was my favorite character when we started, but as soon as Arthur started to get more of a role, he soared through the ranks, and now he and Lewis are battling for first. XD

Either way, I had fun with this, and hopefully, I'll draw him again in the near future~
