nice philosophies you have my friend. I've just started taking a career in design fulltime seriously an discovered DA whilst I was at it.
The great thing that I had to go to uni to find out about this industry is that basically as soon as you create something.....just before your hand disengages the mouse or the stylus drops from your hand copyright is automatically applied to all artworks.
This is a great way to send a chill out msg to the world tho with NCP. Maybe use a lil bit of NLP while your at it. I like yor stuff looks nice, clean and professional.
i'm still getting the hang of this place and just realised you dropped this thread over a year ago....
woops ok then, cya laters then

Public Domain basically lets anyone to do anything with it, including commercial purposes, but no one may claim a copyright on it.

Unfortunately this concept is nothing new. The name suggests that if somebody releases his work under this license, he gives ALL his rights to the work including the copyright which is kinda like public domain. Creative Commons Some Rights Reserved label doesn't confuse people so much. These labels you made are really cool though and I see that you try to aim as many people as possible to make them give some of their rights to the end users when releasing a piece of art for example. I just think CC license is more mature, a lot of lawyers were working on it and there is a huge foundation behind it that has bigger marketing capabilities to promote CC amongst all the people.
IMHO you just reinvented a wheel.

No offence but if this confuses anybody they probably aren't competent enough to be using the internet to start with. and secondly so what if this is "reinventing the wheel" it's not making the world any worse, and personally this seems simpler and better than CC licences. Give it to the world, end of, everyone's happy.

I guess the CC notice used on dA is to hard to understand for you. Actually, I've never seen anything better. Besides that, you have to understand that licenses like that have to be set in stone by law.

Thanks for the hidden insult, I can understand it perfectly thank you, though the idea of CC or "It's free for everyone", NCP sounds a lot simpler to me.

dougstewartdesign In reply to petercui [2008-04-07 16:55:48 +0000 UTC]
Actually, this is what the Creative Commons license was set up for. You've just expanded it, so that if people make a profit they are requested to make a donation with part of the profits. But that also is part of the CC licence since it allows the creator of the "intellectual property" to add on minor provisos such as attribution, notification or donation.
Normally donation applies to donating to the creator, you've just specified that you want the money to go to charity instead.
If I could be so bold as to make a recommendation, you'd get this accepted by a lot more people if you created this as an extension of CC. Having it be a movement of designers who release their work under an open Creative Commons license where the requirement for using the work is that it retains the logo and that people are encouraged to make a donation to charity if they use the work for profit.
