Description That would be the tall building just left of center. View is down West 33rd Street, from the corner of 8th Avenue.

A fresh new dawn to a fresh new day in NYC.

My entry for Word of the Week contest - "Fresh".

I love this! You have no idea what an impact a photo like this has on someone who is used to seeing a sunrise in it's entirety. The contrast between that wonderful sky and the dark little humans still scurrying around in their maze in the middle of the night is stunning. I find myself trying to look around the buildings so I can see the rest of the sunrise! In fact, I see this as more of a conceptual shot than a cityscape.

Well, considering the circumstances thats an excellent shot! Great composition and the sunset looks amazing too. Only thing I could say is that it would be nice to have all of the Empire state building in, but I don't think that seriously detracts from the shot. Good one.

Thanks for your comments - it's always so much more helpful than just receiving a ! I agree that it would have been nice to have the top of the building in the shot also but, given the limitations of the lens, I chose to include the street level scene as a sort of counterpart to what was occurring in the sky. Besides, anyone can take a picture of the enTIRE building - sometimes what you leave out is just as important as what you leave in. Or is that just rationalization? Lol...

Yeah. I knew that the reason you had done that was to get the more interesting foreground (people/cars etc.) in shot. I guess if you can't get the whole of the scene in the shot then you opt for the best bits - which I think you have done there.

Stunning sunset in the back!! Looks like you were standing in the middle of the road >.<. Only suggestion is quality? But its cool, nice work

Thanks - it was a beautiful sunrise! Yes, the quality is low as I had to shoot at the 400 ASA setting because of the low light levels and the fact that - yes, I was standing in the middle of the road at 7 am - dodging NYC's infamous traffic and cabs, so a tripod would have been impractical. But I'm glad you liked the shot!
