Description

Concept of sci fi rifle.

Codename is SETI. Primary goal has been to create dynamic design with no doubt it is not from present time for fictional scenario. To get lines flowing I also subjected energy pack/magazine to this shape.  Battery is placed directly under the grip and once it is engaged,  it fully follows  lines of main body without disturbing points.  There is a vents entrance in the rear section. I didnt make any display. It is suppose to have direct datalink to scope or suit with all information about actual status of devices.  Laser pointer is also involved.  I covered object into shiny material. Just areas coming in touch with operator are from synthetic rubber in order not to be slippery. No dirt, no scratch or damage. Clear in all aspects just dropped from production line.

There is one specific feature. Front part -"Barrel"- includes 2 (left and right  side) lamp. These can operate in 2 modes. Classic mode as a standards lights  and secondary mode as strobe light giving you additional defense points by causing strong disorientation on opposite side.

Whole concept and execution is mine. I did work in 3ds max.  Model is highpoly and rendering engine is V-ray.

Instead of several independent pictures I did just one quite big and large with 3 shots.  I recommend to open it in original size to see details.

So what do you think? Do you like it or not? Tnx for comments if any.

Great design, looks sick. Reminds me somewhat of the Vex Mythoclast from Destiny.

looks like you'd need the electronic sights to properly aim this, unless it has an inbuilt laser sight (easy enough if it's already a laser weapon). I love the design even though I do find this one a bit bulky looking.

Please relocate the selector switch to be manipulated by the thumb and you will have a more useable design.

I truly enjoy this concept sci-fi rifle.  While I have always adored that your mechanical design possess an accessible "near-realism" style, I have to say I enjoy it as much when you stretch that sensibility into some far off ideas.  You never leave the realm of plausibility completely (jury's still out on whether that is a strength or weakness), but this SETI gun is a really inventive piece.  The gun truly feels non-projectile immediately upon first glance, yet is still grounded in a plausible manufactured realism.  My personal interpretation can feel elements of a PDW in this gun, but the graceful flowing lines of the main body feel like an assault rifle type weapon.  I love this oval motif and the coloring is different without being over the top.  A great piece!  I think it may be one of my new favorites of yours.

I do have to ask: are you a fan of an obscure Japanese anime called "Genesis Climber Mospeada"?  Whether you are or not is equally impressive to me.  If you are a fan, it may mean this SETI gun is inspired by the infantry
Mars Gallant H90 / Laser Hound (in rifle configuration); in which case your SETI gun is a truly brilliant and highly creative evolution of that weapon.  If you're not a fan, it means you unknowningly created an amazing sister gun, matching the powerful imagination of another accomplished mechanical designer independently.  Either way, your work here is exemplary!

man. it is great to read comments like this one . tnx you. unfortunately I dont know that japanese anime. In fact only one anime I remind I ever watch has been ghost in the shell series. But not sure if it is japanese or not. I will go on net later to check it. Mainly that gallant H90. tnx for info. bye.

My pleasure.  In fact, why don't a write a critique?  I don't do many because I'm never sure if I can accurately communicate how art makes me feel, but this piece is worth consideration.

ou tnx you mate for critique. but next time you could be more "economical" with star. it does not look realistic when you assing nearly all star possible . It calls critique so it should be some involve. Objective critique is best way for imporving.  But tnx you anyway. you made my day

Really like the design, and I agree with one of the other commentors, that the 3D render looks perfect, just about touchable.
My only comment on the design is that I think it would look better more as a carbine than a rifle... with a much shorter barrel.
It just feels to me like the long, straight lines of the barrel there kinda disrupt the smooth flowing lines of the rest of the design.

Otherwise, fantastic work, mate!

herthrob [2014-10-03 18:27:43 +0000 UTC]

It looks cool, but I don't know how efficient the button placement is. The selector switch is so far forward from any finger there's little conceivable way to toggle without either taking your hand off the weapon or messing with your grip to the point you loose good control. The other buttons above the trigger and grip look awkward as well. Hard to tell without actually holding one.

Also a quick question, is that supposed to be a rail mounting system on the side above the hand gaurd? If so, what accessories do you think would be used?

peterku In reply to herthrob [2014-10-06 07:27:01 +0000 UTC]

You probably right. I  just placed those butten where I have space .  dont know what devices will be invented in the future. Whatever can be using in that time.  Personally I put that rail there just because that area was too flat...

AntiReaper [2014-10-03 13:07:18 +0000 UTC]

It looks stylish but the handle is not for quick pickups. Imagine ig it's hangin from your neck via strap or it's next to you, and suddenly you have to grab it without looking at it, it will be a bit hard to find the holes. And that round bottom  does not support shooting while laying down. And the scope might, just might be too high up, not sure since I can't hold it.  Besides these it looks very sweet and easy to store away.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterku In reply to AntiReaper [2014-10-04 16:38:28 +0000 UTC]

really high that scope? most time when I did scopes on gun I put them too low I think. because of overal look. to have nice profile. Now I have a chance to give it higher so I did it but probably too much. nevermind. This is my constant problem to hit right proportions on my models....
