Hayek was born Salma Hayek Jiménez in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Prior to her roles in numerous Hollywood films which include Desperado, From Dusk till dawn, Dogma and Wild Wild West, Salma Hayek was an acclaimed and successful star in Mexico. Her breakthrough role was in the 2002 film 'Frida' as Frida Kahlo which she received an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress. The movie, also co-produced by Hayek, received widespread attention and was a critical and commercial success.
