Description
The warm afternoon sun fell through the curtains of a cottage bedroom window, warm and just bright enough to be not overbearing, a golden afternoon as some may call it. Faint breathing brought the focus to the big bed close to the window, resting on top of it were two people, a father and his daughter. Sprawled out over his chest, eyes shut tight, the girl was far away in dreamland while clawed fingers gently ran through the girls hair in a soothing motion, making sure that it would stay that way. He couldn't help but watch how her frame rise and sank with every breath she took. The blue hair a carbon copy of his own sprawled like a waterfall over him. He couldn't believe that he managed to create something so utterly adorable and cute, she was perfect, he was a proud father through and through. A music player stood next to the bed playing one of the girls favorite songs in low volume.
"You say you love me but I can see it in your eyes."
"It's not me, it's him who is always on your mind."
"Tearing me apart inside, darling you don't even hide it."
"Keep on lying, dig my grave deeper."
"With this daily torture I realized, I never needed ---
"I. HATE. THIS. GAME!"
The quiet dark tunes of the song functioning as a lullaby for Umina was bluntly interrupted by a surging shout of screams and curses. On first glance hearing those tunes one might were to think they walked into the room of a young teenager, but surprisingly it turned out that these kind of songs were the only ones to sooth the crying child. She certainly had an very interesting taste already at the age of one and a half. Umina, the youngest daughter of Hood and Phobos wasn't the happiest today, after a sleepless night the girl was cranky the entire day and after awoken rather bluntly from her slumber the waterworks and whimpering sounds returned. Their oldest children were out for the day playing with their babysitter in the nearby forest collecting berries while Uminas twin, Ignis, was fast asleep in his own bed. Leaving the scene to only the three, now awake, residents. Umina, Hood and Phobos. And latter wasn't pleased with the second one at the moment. Turning the music off Phobos sat up, pulling Umina gently against his chest as he wrapped his arms around her.
"Shhhh..my little princess. It's alright, daddy is here."
But it was for naught, burying her face into his chest the weeping continued and the sigh escaping her fathers lips was heavy. Half an hour, that is all she slept since 3am this morning. His eye darted towards the door, the wave of curses never ending. It was Hood's "Day off". A system they had implemented that when they could, each of them took a "day off" during the week. Empahsis on could, allowing each parent to follow their hobbies and enjoying some Me-time. Now there is one thing that should be understood. Phobos loves his wife. More than his own life. He would get the sun for her if she requested it. But today, out of all days, having to deal their upset daughter all day, running on almost no sleep and then, after he had just thought he succeeded in making her rest, she got woken up by her mothers angry yelling. No one upsets his children. Not even their own mother. Holding her closely Phobos left the bed, heading out into the hallway and down to their living room. And what he saw ticked all his mental boxes.
"You idiot! He is tea bagging me! Cut it out! Get him! I didn't team kill! He did!"
The headset she was wearing made her unaware that Phobos had approached her from behind. Still a few feet away he observed the situation around her. His nose told him before his eyes did. Alcohol was part of it, he could smell it from here. Laying around her were empty chips bags, chocolate wrapping papers, coke and ice cream wrappers. She was on a complete sugar shock, paired with alcohol and adrenalin from her games.
"Dammit! I am down! Shut up! This is-! It's your fault!"
It partly fascinated him. The immortality of alicorns, she was behaving like a sixteen year old teenager despite being close to fourty, but he guessed that was the appeal of living forever, you could behave however you liked.
"DIE! DIE!"
Hearing her mothers angry voice caused Umina to go in a freenzy as the tears were running down her face and crying her little heart out. Anger rose within, without a second thought he leaned forward, grabbed her headset and pulled it off her head.
"HEY! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU--"
Head spinning around anger written all over it, it vanished the moment she came to face with the grim expression of her husband and her crying daughter.
"Oh ehm..hi honey...", she responded with a sweaty smile, leaning her head back and pushing it against his stomach looking up to him. "Have I ever told you that you look very handsome when you are angry?"
Eye small and his lips in a thin line he responded with nothing but a stare.
"I see you still haven't managed to calm her down, let me handle her.", Hoods hands stretched towards Umina but Phobos quickly took a step back.
"She was calm, she even was asleep until you decided to take part in a shouting competition.", the venom in his voice was only surpressed by his tiredness.
Hoods cheeks puffed up, pointing at their TV.
"IT WASN'T MY FAULT I SWEAR! They started it! I had the perfect plan but then I got team killed and then they got killed and we lost! All because of the--"
"I don't want to hear it Hood!"
His voice heavy and clear, not allowing room for discussion.
"You made your own daughter cry while engaging in this..childish behaviour of yours! You are a mother now! You have responsibility! You can't keep on playing these games forever!"
Sticking her tongue out in a playful manner Hood went on her knees and hands as she looked up at Phobos with a grin trying an innocent look in her eyes.
"But sweetie...you told me you like it when I play games.."
Unwavered by her words the growl in his throat deepened vibrating through her fibre of his being. Hood took the moment to rise and wrap an arm around his back, laying her head against his left shoulder while Umina was on his right.
"I remember someone was very upset last week when he got killed over and over again....", her whisper reached his ear and his eye was on her straight away.
"That was....different...", he replied in a softer tone.
Laying a finger on his nose she let out a chuckle.
"You were so angry I thought the face you pulled would remain forever. It suited you quite well Mr. Grumpy bug~"
"..You know I hate it when you call me that, cut it out...
"Then stop me~" She purred against his neck before pushing herself off from him, losing her footing she fell onto her butt making Phobos roll his eye.
Something however...was odd. It had been silent all this time during their conversation, looking down Phobos realized why. Umina had finally fallen asleep! During the bickering between her parents the girl must have fallen asleep. A mental sigh of relief ran through him followed by a light chuckle and a whisper.
"I didn't know our conversations were that boring.", placing a small kiss on top of his daughters head. Raising a finger at Hood. "Stay there."
Turning on his heels Phobos walked back down the hallway and entered a room on the left, shortly after he came back out, hands free he closed the door, before walking back into the living room. Grabbing a second controller he sat down behind Hood, wrapping his arms around her and holding his own controller just below her own.
"Same stakes as usual?", Hood piped up as she started a game.
"Hmmmmmmm...nope. You still owe me for last week."
"Last week? But, I made up for that in the second round!"
"Can't say I was satisfied with it~" Phobos replied with a sly grin that earned him a punch in the shoulder.
"You cheeky little....Hey! Not fair! I was busy punching you! Stop getting points ahead of me!"
"Then stop me, princess~"
