Bunched-up leg muscles - possibly cartillage instead of bone, much like a hamster's back (though that may be slightly wrong, I'm no expert) that stores kinetic energy and released like a coiled spring. Oh, and it's pokemon great job!

I think fleas have a similar mechanism in their legs (a structure that stores kinetic energy like a coiled spring).

I do like imagining how things would live and act biologically even if it is only with pokemon but hey, if I can't manage it, it's good to know there's always the 'a wizard did it!' defense
