21 year old senior, Kelly Klein, and 21 year old junior, Bonnie Sutton, clutch each others' hand as they tell their horrific account of how they were in the class room in Northern Illinois University's Cole Hall when the gun man started shooting a shotgun on Valentine's Day 2008.I felt so bad for all the people affected and who were in such pain from these events as we, the media, encroached on their lives, invaded their personal bubbles, pelted with questions, and profited from their pain just to get the story. This is the worst part of the job!!
Neither this photo nor any of the photos in this segment have been extensively edited, maybe a few changes but nothing substantial, I'll be replacing them with the edited version when I get the time.
Please keep all those people in your thoughts, prayers, and hearts who were killed, who lost a loved one or who were affected in some way by this horrific event.

It's very comforting... you know?
I don't understand (nor do I really want to) how someone can take the life of another like this, what goes through their mind, how they feel... it's sad. I don't know. I feel bad for everyone in situations like this.

Yea, I know what you mean, what's so confusing bout this one is that the shooter never had a police record, never had problems with other people, and was described as a gentle, caring, and even peaceful individual...somehow I find that all very difficult to believe!

There were rumors of him being on mental health meds..but idk how they'd know that b/c the hospital can't release that info.

Hospital is forbidden by law to release that info unless they're issued a court order. A Family member is possible..idk

I found out where they got the info, My mom works with a guy who's good friends with the shooter's ex gf..and she's one of the people who gave out that info, that he'd been off his anti-anxiety meds b/c he felt like a zombie. It's messed up.

Wow. I feel bad because I can understand not wanting to be on the meds, but at the same time I don't because if I knew I needed the meds then I should take them. I don't know... it's a horrible situation.

I'm very very sorry to hear about that, miss! It must be hard to lose someone so close. I love my job as a photographer especially for journalism, but tragedies, like this one, are the worst, because I feel like I"m barging in on their lives, and not giving them the proper time/space to mourn, but I hope my photos will help keep their memories alive forever! Again, I'm terribly sorry for your loss! Stay safe, and God Bless!!
