I find this image surreal in the best sense of this word. The hallucinatory sense I have is due to the strong lighting on the left side of the box which flattens the image. I am then stuck by the well lit form of the model that jumps out at you.

I am not sure just how this was lit but it certainly must have been challenging. I am impressed.

The placement of the box in the space, seems quite formal, classic with lots of space which leads the viewer to get your title "austere portrait". The model herself though certainly uncomfortable certainly does not appear so. Her accommodations certainly are austere however. I have flashbacks to bus trips and plane rides of my past.

An excellent concept, skillfully executed by both photographer and model. The delicate balance of negative and positive space is indicative of a true artist, and the expert lighting is indicative of a top-notch photographer. The desaturated colors give the image a timeless quality, and they increase the artistic appeal. The model did a superb job by positioning herself inside the cube to make maximum impact with the lighting in the creation of lines, shapes, shadows, textures, and form. Her body language and facial expression work in tandem with the desaturated colors to further the timeless and artistic qualities. I appreciate the fact that it downplays the sexuality while maximizing the sensuality of the nude female form, and it pays homage to the softness of her body and her nature, contrasted with the stark angles and hard surface of the cube in which she is contained, as if it's protecting her vulnerability. An excellent dichotomy if I've ever seen one! Graphically, it's a very "clean" image, and overall it's destined to be a classic. I can certainly see it doing well in a fine art gallery and over the fireplace of an expensive home. Very nicely done indeed.

Again, very unusual placement, creates a striking image that demands the viewer spend the time to study the image.

A side ways salute to Ruth Bernhard? Very nice job on your part at keeping the lighting so even, that had to take some work. And my hats off to the model, that had to be a hard pose to hold without getting a cramp.
