I wanted to create something Icon-like again after a while. So the decision to take a simple object and draw it was close at hand. I had done sun glasses at my latest vector, but redrew these from scratch (taking pics of the sun glasses I wear atm, but i didnt follow them exactly).

The icon part becomes clear in the dimensions: 512x512 px

I had a lot of fun creating all the shapes that make the glass. The frame... not so much

Lots of blends, different layer modes, opacities and gaussian blur for the shadows underneath. The shadows looked okay using only blends, but gaussian blur just made them the edge more "realistic"

However, I'm following a bit up on ^ChewedKandi (who's doing "every day objects" atm too ) by starting to create more objects from now on. Doing skin and portraits is nice'n'all but I used to do so many objects as icons, I wanted to start creating those in vector now (only PS on my downloadable icons so far)

Hope you like it

btw if you have any suggestion on what object I shall try next... just lemme know

These Illustrations are not Icons in the usual sense, e.g they are NOT to be used for customization or as stock. Thank you ^_^

The window reflection is a bit unfortunate I think. It's too sharp and demands too much attention. Other than that this is brilliantly executed.

is it so? I always figured cos it's a mirror surface, the reflection should be as sharp as what is reflected. but maybe if it's like the window would be blurry when you look at it from the glasses perspective, then it should be blurry on the glasses too… however there was a reason for them being sharp, it appeared logical to me

Well, I think everything will indeed be sharp in a mirror surface, but not so bright. My point is that with either blurring or making it more transparent the reflection will become a little less prominent which I think will do good.

Yo!
Very nice, but imo I'd make the reflection a bit less visible, also is it possible that the window reflection is on the same place twice? @~@

the "window" reflection? yeah, it's a bit too graphic i guess
on the same place twice? i think i dont get that but usually the same reflection is on each glass... cos they are so close together, while what is reflected is far away. if that makes sense

PatrickRuegheimer In reply to pica-ae [2011-07-11 17:40:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, sure it's on both glasses, but not on the same place, right?
They should be on a little different position I guess.
But I UNO, sorrai. :}D
