Description Love Poition No 9
Photoshop; about 5 hours
made for Digital Birthday Contest: Love Potion #9

Stock Bleeding? by ~nejfi-stock

so, this is actually my first vexel/vector that is not part of a collab

when i read "Love Poition No 9" i immediately had the idea of showing the actual potion dripping from a beautiful mouth

AND i also wanted to use a different style of vector layers on this deviation, more rough and painty. i think there are tons of layers and only like 4 of them have 100% transparency

about the actual content?
well, she looks like she took a deep sip of the potion, she really seems to need it desperately
maybe there was some of my sub-consciousness involved
or maybe she took too much of it, and this is the stuff that is coming up again...
i don't know, make up your own mind ^^"

hope you like it

first thank you dear for taking a closer look a this

oh, i dont mind the criticism at all, i wanna learn and that will only help me to improve for sure

as far as the orange... hehe, i always play with the color-balance in photoshop and mostly overdo it

and yes, there is not that much detail (and care, i have to admit) in it, but i wasn't trying to achieve realism here and instead wanted to go for a ... i dunno... kind of more "loose" look... if you know what i mean ^^"

i think i only finished it actually cos i had the idea, found the stock and sat down and did it in a matter of some hours i just had to get it done

No problem

I know you might be aiming for realism, however even in simplicity adding the detail, even if it's more sharp defined shapes can help make a piece

You did very well though, keep that in mind and I'm looking forward to seeing your next

You have done a stellar job for your first vector piece.
My I first begin by saying that your values are great. Each layer looks great. There are however a couple of changes you might want to consider. For example the the top of the neck should be darker judging from your reference photo. It also might be a good idea to add some darker values in the "Liquid" as it contacts the skin. On that note the area the Liquid touches the skin should cast a faint shadow.
In closing this is a excellent vector piece. You have my congratulations on an excellent first time in working with vectors. You have my e.deviantart.net/emoticons/p/pā€¦ " width="15" height="16" alt="" title="+fav" />

very nice job! I voted all critiques for fair, because they'll improve your work even more.

hey, I was looking at the lips and some days ago I was trying to make this particular effect of lip gloss, but I didn't find any good tutorial on that. Can you help me out, give me some tips on how to make the lips looks like it's shining?

thanks! and good work, keep'em comming, 'cos I'll be watching

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

pica-ae In reply to tecsoft [2010-05-06 13:33:01 +0000 UTC]

mh, well... i usually use white as highlight and make it a bit transparent... using white makes it really shine
now i always add some tiny sparkles, either with a scatter bursh or do them quickly with the pencil tool

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

tecsoft In reply to pica-ae [2010-05-06 14:51:55 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the tips... I was doing something like that, but using small circles instead of pencil tool... but without the highlight, I'll try that... I already installed photoshop here, so I'll try with the brushes too see if gets better

anyway, I'll post the results soon
thanks for your help

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

pica-ae In reply to tecsoft [2010-05-06 15:18:27 +0000 UTC]

no problem

well, small circles should work too
you just need a clear highlight to make it glossy... having only layers of shapes slowly getting brighter will make it looks smooth but not shiny ^^
so, some bright elements really help

oh but if you use ps brushes it is not a vector anymore i am using illustrator brushes on doing lips

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

tecsoft In reply to pica-ae [2010-05-06 16:43:21 +0000 UTC]

actually it's not for vector art, I'm aplying this effect on a website's menu so the PS will work (and I just can't work on Illustrator :/ believed me, I tried)

How are you getting along with LaFraise t-shirt designs? I got one accepted, but came to nothing. I have recently uploaded tons of designs since, and they declined all of them. Pretty annoyed, as they follow their current style, but using my own design. Hey-ho!

pica-ae In reply to muzski [2009-10-05 13:56:11 +0000 UTC]

mmmh... i wanted to try threadless maybe as well, you'd even get more money there
but i havent gotten any further in improving my designs so far

Stop doubting yourself, Pica, give it a go. I will. Sounds like alot better website than LaFraise.
