Description "We can find light even in the darkest places. We just have to look for it"

Here am I again trying to work with more than white on the doodles.Today was such a rush I couldn't finish this doodle the way I planned :/

However, I've got accepted on Graphic Design course at university. I'm going to start it by the end of this week, I'm really gladΒ  (even though the doodle seems so gloomy).

So what are you using for the white, is it just a white marker?

Whoever said "we can find light in the darkest of places" obviously wasn't a spelunker.

Questions- do you do a pencil sketch first, or do you dive right in with pen? And do you do one per page, or do you have to skip pages due to the pens bleeding through?

BC-Rain In reply to Fehnryr [2015-06-26 13:54:56 +0000 UTC]

He does a small pencil sketch first (you can tell if you look really closely in certain areas). I want to know how he makes the black so bold O_o

I can't find it, but he said somewhere that he does it in sharpie or marker and then adjusts the contrast in photoshop to make the black more uniform and dark

Your work is amazing! I love each tiny detail you add. How do get the black so smooth and perfect without lines in it? That's so nice looking.

I'm very happy I was able to spot it on the front page while browsing today!Β
The fact you use such a strong contrast is very pleasing to the eye, not to mention your overall talent of drawing just makes everything about this piece amazing to look at. I especially love the lamp in particular, very creative.

Yes, it is colored digitally. He lines it traditionally, fill in colors digitally, and increases the contrast in PS.

I know where the cat is... Do you see the black buildings? Yes? Actually these are many black cats on each other. And their eyes are closed. And their whiskers are cut off .

... and I have no explanation where the cat really is. :>

Congratulations on being accepted! I'm certain you'll do splendidly there!

The doodle isn't depressing. I'm reminds of an old Peanuts cartoon in which Linus is standing in place with Charlie Brown coming and saying: "What are you doing?"
Linus replies: "It is better to carry a single candle than to curse the Darkness". the next and last frame is Lucy by herself in the dark crabbing "You Stupid Darkness!".

Sometimes a single star can work wonders and it looks like the Child is well taken care of. Β

Stunning, as usual! I can't believe how neat all of your lines are despite the fact that it's black-dominated... I would totally screw all of my white spots up somehow, like an accidental line here, there, there, until there's no white left and I've covered the whole thing in black. ;_; but to the point, this is stunning! Even better than usual, and just as intricate.
