Jareth sure makes one adorable, angry fuzzball of an owl in this scene. Love it!
Oh, and the more I stare at it, the funnier it gets! Haha!

Re-reading this page made me realize: Now HERE's something to consider; if Sarah is more comfortable around Erik than she is around Raoul.
Obviously the context here is that she's moving away to ensure that Erik and Raoul won't run into each other, but still, I could not help but consider it.
Now I'll find it hilarious if someone comments that Sarah may not actually SEE Erik as a heterosexual male.
To me, the real mystery of this friendship isn't Erik, but Sarah. She's a strange person. She may not even be aware of how interesting a character she is.

Sarah's own envy/inexperience/immaturity kinda colour her early interactions with her friend's lover, before I really let Raoul be much a character in his own right. Icky French face-sucking! So yeah, discomfort.
You have a good point in that Sarah probably views Erik as being Christine-sexual (or rather, -romantic, may be possibly closer to current language norms and if one prefers book canon), and he generally pulls off the Chivalrous Old-Fashioned Gentleman act enough to not be classified as "eugh, GUYS *eyeroll*". Generally.
Apart from Jareth who makes his sexual nature pretty damn unignorable, our Lil-Miss-PG does tend to naturally prefer not to think of her friends and acquaintances as hanky-panky-having adults.
Erik's rather wild liaison with Mag, and Sarah levelling up and out of her denial in more recent pages, mean they both have since gotten a bit of a more mature handle on sexual matters.

Why am I not entirely surprised he'd rather cover his face?

Every single time I read this particular page, I'm hit by a lot mixed reactions. It is really quite well done.
On the surface, it is mostly an amusing page with all sorts of amusing components. Raoul showing up just as Erik is borrowing the girls' shower (due to the presence of the Pale Man in his bathroom, thanks to Jareth) is just the worst (or best) timing possible. Then we have Sarah making vague and amusing excuses to keep Raoul from the bathroom/more private corners of the apartment. "Girly thing" is probably the best vague excuse a female can use because very few males will wish to question it further. Then we have Erik, rather than remaining hidden in the bathroom, panicking and deciding to hide somewhere Raoul is less likely to go (Sarah's room) because he knows exactly how bad it would look if Raoul found out. This also gives us the amusing image of his ankle and bubbles as he dashes for safety. Which leads to Sarah walking in on Erik, who decides to use his only source of covering for his face rather than how most people would aim lower. And then the pair admit that this is a rather comedic and embarrassing situation while Jareth the Owl watches frustrated from outside, growing rather "steamed" about his roommate being seen naked by his significant other. It is all very hilarious.
But then, probably overanalyzing it way too much, there are other subtler parts that I keep considering when I look at this page.
Christine's greeting to Raoul is written in a larger font than the rest of the dialogue, implying it is spoken loudly (and the multiple exclamation marks support this). Now, it could mean that she's just excited to see him OR she could be trying to give Erik a warning that they have company. The second one makes a lot of sense since he's here sooner than she expected. Otherwise she would have probably suggested that Erik wait for his shower until after she left with Raoul. The rather enthusiastic make-out session (which is admittedly not unusual for the pair) and the suggestion for a cappuccino could be continuing with her effort to distract and hurry Raoul out of the apartment respectively. She and Sarah know that the situation is completely innocent, but even the most understanding fiancé in the world is going to be pretty uncomfortable about the murderous stalker ex-love interest being naked in their fiancée's home.
Then we have Erik's reaction and behavior on this page which, while amusing, also makes me a little sad for him. We've already established that he's a gentleman when it comes to certain things, such as how to treat and interact with a lady (exploiting her Electra Complex, kidnapping, nearly blackmailing into marriage, and other canon manipulations not withstanding). When dealing with a wet and mildly exposed Sarah a few pages ago, he pulls off his robe and wraps it around her (which is of course why she still has it). When making apologies to Sarah, he brings flowers. He is always respectful and polite when speaking to Sarah or Christine or Mag or any woman he deals with. He also always seems to be dressed nicer than the other boys on a regular basis. He's got standards that he tries to fulfill. That's possibly why he ran for Sarah's room instead of Christine in his panicked reaction to the arrival of Raoul (since it would be very bad if Raoul found out he was there). Being unclothed in either of the girls' rooms would be bad, but it would be worse to be in Christine's room in that condition due to their history. Sarah's room as a hiding place is the lesser of the two evils.
But then we hit on the aspect that makes me sad. When Sarah comes looking for him in her room, Erik has only a moment to react. He has a small towel as his only source of covering and an unwed, unchaperoned, and nice young lady is about to enter the room. The gentleman-type reaction would be to protect the young lady's innocence as best he can. But that's not what happened. The standard natural reaction for most people in that situation is to cover up what part makes them feel the most exposed/vulnerable and what they are raised to believe should not be seen in public. We're socially conditioned to cover around the waist (and/or the chest when you're female). That is what we are taught to the point it is a natural reaction and almost instinctive. But Erik's life conditioned him to consider his face being exposed as being worse. He only had a split second to react to Sarah's arrival, so his natural instinct is to hide his face first. He probably didn't even think. He just reacted. And the fact that concealing his face is a stronger socially-conditioned reaction than the more traditional societal one of covering further down... That's pretty sad to me. And then there was his small "yes" to Sarah's question. It really reinforces just how long and how completely the physical appearance of his face has ruled his entire life. We already knew that from "Phantom of the Opera," but that doesn't stop this particular reaction from making me pity him further.
Of course, we also have Jareth's presence outside the window. Yes, it is funny to see him get so steamed over Sarah getting a look at Erik before he got the robe. But it also makes me wonder what he's doing. He could be trying to see if Sarah is alone in the apartment before he tries for his apology (he wouldn't want any witnesses). Or he might be trying to see what her mood is so he knows whether or not she'll likely slap him again. Or he might be looking for some kind clue or last minute hint on how he could make this easier. Regardless, his frustration with how his attempt to mess with Erik led to... THIS... Yeah, his thought process probably was replaced with a lot of unintelligible ranting.
...And I definitely overanalyzed this page.

Woah, that's a very deep analysis. And seeing how it's backed up by the creator, I say it makes for a great explanation behind the strip for those who can only see things at face value unfortunately (including me). So thanks!

The end of "Philosophisauce", the off screen shouting by Erik to the effect that Jareth had somehow relocated the Pale Man to the boys' bathroom, as an extra petty coda to dumping the bucket of paint and meatsauce on him.

Ah, to think that a friend who would offer you her space and time, consent to some off-kilter plans, shield you from embarrassment at the hands of certain third parties and forgive you a fairly dangerous psychotic episode would reject you for something superficial.
I am loving these two as friends. But once again, the pernicious albeit not unfounded elements ingrained in Erik's psyche... I like a silly and dark moment simultaneously.
