Description Renon was the shopkeeper and a boss in Castlevania 64, for Nintendo 64. He placed contracts in Dracula's castle for adventurers to find and read aloud to summon him, and then purchase various items he carried in his briefcase. The fine print in the contract, readable only by demons, specified that if an individual buyer spent a minimum of thirty thousand gold pieces on Renon's products, he or she had to pay a sort of fee for repeated service, which consisted of the adventurer's soul.

Looking at the big picture, he's an inconspicuous character in an inconspicuous game, and that is one of the many reasons I went to a convention last saturday dressed as him, and here's the picture. I cut away the whole background because it was a flowery garden, and didn't quite fit the character. I couldn't find the "costumes" place to put this deviation there, and since there was some photomanipulation involved, I think it's appropriate.

My girlfriend went dressed as Julia, the shopkeeper in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, and her brother went as Alucard, also from various Castlevania titles. I like to think that given a little time we could've come up with an imaginary adventure involving those three characters and a whole lot of haggling. Anyway, we didn't, don't know why I just thought of it. Maybe it wouldn't have been fun at all, come to think of it.

Anyway, I like dressing up for any and every reason. Plus, one person recognized the character, and that made me smile.

Never had to fight him.

I am actually kind of sad.

O.o the ESRB probably wouldn't have approved of you playing that game at that age, but what do they know, right?

I must agree with your description/comments that the game itself and Renon in particular are very underrated. Although I like the Metroidvanias that came afterwards too, the out-and-out hatred so many fans show toward either version of Castlevania (N64) is completely undeserved.
And that is a really cool costume you made, too.

Renon is by far one of my favorites from the games...

He and Cornell run a very tight tie.

Carrie and Reinhardt murdered many skelletons, lizardmen, bone pillars, vampires, bats. . . and toke their money to buy food and drugs from renon.
So. . . I imagine demons deal just with stolen money O.O' ?
Ohhh god . . . is there no "Undead Rights" in Hell o.ร•?

That's because skelletons are so slim. . .
and vampires so thirsty . . .
and lizardmen so lizard. . .
they are explored !!
What a shame . . .
Obs: REAL NICE COSTUME !!

You do look him dressed like that!!! I played both Castlevania games for the Nintendo 64 and fought Renon a few times and he's not to difficult to beat. His battle tactics are the same as Death's and has his own demon fish to attack you with.

Pilin In reply to MinaJen [2006-12-10 20:21:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much, you've made my day.
That game ruled, it's a shame that only a handful of people paid attention to it.
I got goosebumps every time I opened the gate and that big skeleton was right there, staring at me. I think that was the first gigantic boss I remember.
I hated the Mandragora thing though, I just kept blowing up by accident.

Your gallery is amazing, I just love that you're a KOTOR fan, and the zombie essay, too. Itchy tasty indeed. Resident Evil is another great saga. Come tothink of it, there was a "Mandragora" mission in there as well...

Thank, and congratulations for the pretty clothing designs! Can you believe they don't sell copic markers in my country?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

MinaJen In reply to Pilin [2006-12-10 22:50:23 +0000 UTC]

I remember the mandragora part! Man...I never got the hang of that...I think I let someone else get through then resumed playing ^_^

The garden maze, in particular, always gets me...I don't think I've ever really seen something that intense in a videogame before, or after, ever.
Thanks for the KOTOR (1 or 2? ^_~)and zombie love. Which RE has the madrogora-ish part? I've really only sat down and played completely through RE 2 and 4

And the marker thing? No, I don't know how you manage to make your (might I say fantastic?) artwork without them. I hoard each $2.00 marker not unlike a dragon it's gold.

Or a zombie its sweet precious, tastey Braaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiinnnnnnssss.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Pilin In reply to MinaJen [2006-12-10 23:35:51 +0000 UTC]

Hehehe, the mandragora thing was in Resident Evil for Gamecube, I don't remember if it was also in the Playstation. At some point near the end, Chris had to carry a highly explosive and fickle compound from one place to another, and it was supposed to blow up if you got hit, and I suspect it blew up if you ran or fired heavy weaponry. I never made him blow up, intentionally or accidentally, 'cause my mandragora-hating background made me particularly careful with that sort of thing. Parenthetically, Mandragora is one of my favorite words now, no idea why. The garden maze made me know fear in videogames. No Resident Evil Silent Hill, or any other terror game can compare, mainly because Castlevania 64 was the first and only game that actually stressed me out to the point of pausing for a while and resuming play after I relaxed a bit. Damn frankenchainsaw monster. Did you know THAT FREAK was going to be a playable character originally? That would've rocked.

About the KOTORs, both are amazing, but Atton kicks Carth's ass in every way that counts, plus, he gets a lightsaber, which makes him exponentially hot (and dangerous).
