Character- Shoji Hakure
Original Universe- Protector Shoji

Update- Didn't make the finalist cut....but I did get dubbed an "Fantastic Contender". Which is quiet the honor considering this piece represented a lot of new firsts for me.

Shoji stood in the doorway. Her hands trembled. The rain’s soft percussion filled the void. Iruka rested his hand on her bare shoulders.

“Shoji… it doesn't have to be like this…”

“I have no choice now, Iruka. Ptalmon… the book…they destroyed everything. My past, my planet, my family. I have nothing left to cling to. ”

“You have me. You’ve always had me.”

Shoji turned but could not face him.

“…this was a mistake. I can’t ask you to follow me any longer. You will only end up a liability….or a casualty. I don‘t need anymore blood on my hands.”

Iruka griped Shoji’s face, forcing their eyes to meet. His green depths penetrated her .

“You never had to ask, Shoji! I’m doing this because I lo- care about you! ”

Shoji roughly shoved Iruka back and turned to exit once more.

“Better take your feelings elsewhere, Iruka. I don’t have time for them. I’m leaving in fifteen. I leave with or with out you.”

Abandoned as an infant and orphaned by her foster family during an interplanetary war…tragedy is no stranger to Shoji Hakure. Not being the type to sit back and let those responsible for her bloody past take over the rest of the Blue System , she is on a mission to get her revenge.

A little about the universe-
Shoji comes from the Blue System. A system of 7 habitable planets. Each planet as it’s own race and planetary government.

Prior to the main plot of the story, a large war takes place between Sapient and Nexis over access past the Ceres Line ( an asteroid belt that falls between Nexis and Gomi). The battle rages and Nexis almost falls…till a strange man from Vexia makes an appearance.

He guarantees Nexis victory if they help him locate “The Book of Power”. If they can locate it, he can harness it’s power to win the war.

Nexis agrees…and with that agreement sparks the rest of our story.

A little about Shoji and the contest entry piece-

Shoji is crouched ready to fight. Her two blades, one of light and the other of darkness, are by her side. Behind her on the top right is Sapient, a planet she once called home. On the bottom left is Pangea, her new home. She must protect it at all costs. Below her on the right is “The Book of Power” the instrument of Sapient’s demise. And above her left is a representation of her inner sadness….a weakness she must keep hidden from friend and foe alike.

I’ve always been a fan of a good revenge story…but never a fan of how the characters never really grow as people.

So, I came up with a heroine that is not only, strong and mission driven….but is also human. Through the course of the story we see her grow from a revenge driven individual to something much more dynamic.
I can’t go in to too much detail about the plot ( because this is all being revamped for a comic soon…and I don’t want to give anything too juicy away. ^_^).

A little about Shoji and I-

I came up with Shoji and the PS universe when I was about 13 or so. The (slightly embarrassing) excerpt is from an unedited draft of PS I wrote when I was 17. The story has taken many forms…scripts, novels, art….but this year , finally, I am really ready to share it with the world as a comic! So, entering this contest was my way of pushing myself to start. I hope you enjoy it!
