Description Welp, I was trying to work on my shading, but I think I made everything too dark. I'd like some criticism on this one.

Art stuff used: HB and 8B pencils, blending stump, and a kneaded eraser.

DISCLAIMER: This character is not mine. It is Nintendo's. This is merely fan art.

I love the face. Cool expresion. I think you need more contrast for the back ground though. If you want to make the for ground to stand out, and not blend in.

Yeah... wish I hadn't made the background so dark. >< Lol. I'll try to do better next time.

The background needs to be lightened up, but it came out great otherwise

You can still use the kneaded eraser

Actually, no, I can't. If the graphite is too thick, then no eraser can get rid of it. It just smears, sadly.

You can erase charcoal? Doesn't it smear like graphite? (I don't have a lot of experience with charcoal, so I wouldn't know.)

Charcoal is very manipulative. Now when I say charcoal though I mean vine charcoal, which comes in cylindrical sticks. Charcoal pencils don't erase easy.

Yes it smears, but thats kinda the point of it, it's good with shading lights and darks, but not textures.

I think I have a few of my charcoal drawings laying around I can show you.

Next time, try darkening Wolf's outer lines. That way, he'll pop out better!
Otherwise, everything else looks great~ I'm totally in love with his face!

Actually, I was trying not to darken his outer lines. You see, in real life, everything doesn't have a line at its edge. We just do that to help distinguish the object. But I want to go for a more realistic take. So, I tried doing a bunch of shading and creating form to Wolf. I made plenty of mistakes, but I'm still practicing. Thanks for the compliment!

You'll definitely improve, especially with that attitude!
