The blade looks very realistic @_@ You'll be happy to know that I got very excited when I was browsing your gallery and saw that you had made Ikkaku's zanpakuto. This is amazing!

Wow...I'm really impressed with all that has been done with this... Would it be possible for me to buy it off of you? I'm gunna be cosplaying as Ikkaku and would like it a lot if i could get my own hozukimaru.

Thanks! All of my swords are carved from wood, but this one is made of PVC pipe for the shaft, and the spead head is wood.

YouΒ΄re welcome. So, youΒ΄re using it for LARP, right? The PVC used to make it more solid.

Nope, no larping. It was just easiest to use so that it could be convertible, thats all.

Ah ok. Just thought so because a friend told me that itΒ΄s better to have such a core in the weapon in LARP because otherwise you canΒ΄t use it more than once or twice before itΒ΄s broken.

Yeah, someday I would like to make the full size one. It would be pretty hard though, just because the weight would be a factor, but also buying the wood for it would be tough. So, I might just have to settle and use some kind of foam. I'm a big fan of this weapon myself, I'm so glad we get to see it.

wow! i wuvz it! it awesome! i think all the colors are right......what did you get wrong? and what materials did you use to make it?

piratecaptain In reply to stanstan009 [2008-01-08 04:45:07 +0000 UTC]
The color of the shaft is apparently a more beige color. Thats what my friends tell me. As for the materials, I used PVC pipe, or plastic tubing, and chain. The spear head is wood again.

it's extremely good. how did you manage to 1) get the middle section of the shaft to stay and 2) keep the chains from sliding out. also, if you are literally colorblind, i'm sorry. looks fun to fight with, hehehe....maybe i'll make a hozukimaru a project of my own ^^

The whole thing is kept together by tension, which is done by making the tubes fit very snugly. As for how to make the chains stay in, check my scraps, there should be a diagram on how I did it. And don't worry about the colorblind thing, it's gotten me out of some tough spots. And yes, it is very very fun to play with. If you make your own, let me know how it turns out.

Impressive. This is the first replica of Ikkakus Zanpakto I've ever seen.
What kind of paint did you use for the shiny part of the blade? I'd like to get some for my Zangetsu.

I'm glad you like it! And thanks a lot for the +fav and the watch, I appreciate it. As for the paint, I just use a metallic silver spray paint.

How did you paint the blade so accurately and cleanly?
Did you paint the PVC pipe?
Did you make or buy the tassle?
π: 0 β©: 1
piratecaptain In reply to chioky [2007-10-24 03:54:33 +0000 UTC]
I just tape off the side i'm not painting when using spray, and then just take my time and be careful hand painting the black. Yup, I painted the PVC, but the paint doesn't stick too great when using acrylic. And I made the tassle.
