Beautiful photo! I love the colors, the composition, and your handling of it.

Thank you!It was a sort of spur of the moment shot, on a stunning dewy morning. I had 10 mins to spare and rattled off some shots with out any fore-thought. I sometimes think this produces much "fresher" looking pix than too much planning.

Yes, I think so, too. Sometimes I'll have a photograph all planned in my mind, and yet it was when I spontaneously took a shot from another angle that actually worked.

Completely agree! I've gradually realised I take photo's in two separate ways. If I know a location and have some sort of plan in my head I shoot in one mindset, whether I'm roving and looking, or if I'm static with something more specific in mind. When I'm at a new venue or the weather is doing something out of the ordinary (anything that breaks the "familiar" frame of mind) I find I take completely different pics then than I do there-after. I look quite longingly at some of those first impression pictures, they have an element that is somehow different to the more "habituated" shots Maybe its in my minds eye, rather than real ! I think sometimes our subconcious sees more than the concious, and takes over when we are distracted with the rapture of something fresh and new.

Yes, and I think sometimes we respond to the results of that spontaneous creativity in a different way, no more or less appreciatively, than we do to the very carefully planned photograph. I think we need both types of photos, of course, but love being pleasantly surprised when something unexpected works!

Yes, I'm digging that too. We need that duality, and the subtle tension that accompanies it. I think there are two sides to our psyche, very old and deep rooted, but both needing fed. I've read that pattern recognition is hard-wired somewhere, as a selected survival trait when we were hunter-gatherers, and that seems to respond to the regular and predictable - i.e. the next meal on the horizon. But there also is an element always with a eye open for unexpected bonuses, serendipity is always welcome! To me it would be logical that these two fragments are at once antagonistic and in some ways complimentary - almost competing for attention, to be the one that scores satisfaction. As you say its very nice to be pleasantly surprised!!

Thanx, I'm very pleased with this one. It was in the garden, just outside my door!! We had a very heavy dew and I dived out for 10 minutes and grabbed a few shots. This thing is about 1/2" across, got as close up as I could and shot a few, handheld, and got one sharp!! Too lazy to get the tripod out and got away withit!!!

I shoot like that a lot sometimes, but with unpredictable results.... Glad this turned out because it really is stunning.

Sometimes get surprised at how good spontaneous shots can turn out. I think you have a different "head" on, see with different eyes, if you don't plan on taking pix. I find its the same when i visit a new place, shots taken when I know a place always have a separate feel to them compared to the "rush" of the first sight

I'm a bit of a fud when cropping macro, get a bit "focused" on the object and kill the picture. End up with a record shot.
