Thank you ^^ I actually realized that mid-drawing, but yeah, it was way too late and Lance looks way too cool so I kept it like that.

Thank you so much, the foreshortening was probably the thing I cared the most here and I'm really happy you like it and the lines, thanks again for that, though I still think I should do something about them I gotta focus on that one of these days, I feel lazy about it right now...

How'd you learn to draw so well

PkBlitz In reply to xMachaku [2014-04-15 19:43:15 +0000 UTC]
Here's the thread btw: www.conceptart.org/forums/show…
There's a list of books he used in the first post, it's not like you reaaaally have to read a lot of drawing books to get good, after all what you need is to draw a lot (and drawing from real life also helps a lot, though I still have to try that more often). But the books help to actually figure out things in the early stages. The rest is up to you. Have fun.

I still have a lot of room for improvement, I don't "draw so well" in my opinion. But there isn't a specific method to "get good", you may follow many different paths. Personally, I think drawing whenever you can and whatever you can (or cannot) is useful to develop the skills part (this should lead to the development of style, better line quality, confidence, etc), while learning the fundaments (construction, anatomy, perspective, composition, lighting, etc) is the knowledge part. Of course, this is my point of view, and there's always talented people who evolve naturally by just drawing and can do awesome things without doing all that hard work or doing only a part of it. However, I think talent can be beaten with hard work.
There was an old thread in conceptart.org called "Sketchbook: a complete rookie's journey on learning to draw" where a guy shared his art studies everyday, he sucked really bad back then when he started the thread but he's pretty darn awesome now. Today you can get all the books he used for his fundamental studies in pdf form, thanks to the beautiful Internet. I think I don't really practice as much as I really should (or at least I don't feel like so), but I've read many books that teach you the fundamentals and you might wanna check Loomis' or Hampton's books, or ProkoTV's videos if you want a shortcut to all that text. The road is long and you might figure out your own methods to practice, if you even decide to practice at all. I do it almost every day and just for fun, nothing too hardcore. After all I'm a hobbyist, I think the fun is the important part here.

Every artist was first an amateur.
I think it's totally fine. If you don't have the time, the need or the will to master drawing it would be quite pointless to go against your will and priorities.
lol, I know how it feels. But still, most drawing books are more about the pretty illustrations and instructions than about tons of words.
