Uhmmm, slightly messy book 2 sketch βcause I rewatched it the other day and got Makorra feels and had to get this out of my system; plus it gave me a chance to try out a new technique Iβm trying to get down c:I know they fought crazy bad but they still have their nice moments here and there c:

Even though it's not my pairing it's adorable and reminds me of the good moments they had + it's colored really great!

Yoo, I totally shipped this back when Korra first came out c: Then I discovered the amazingness that is Korrasami, and then I was lost, but every once in a while I'll get the random Makorra feel c:
I love them as a Brotp though, they just work a lot better with that dynamic c:

TBH I never shipped it because of their constant arguing, lying and betraying each others trust which just got on my nerves but I still 'awwed' a few times when they actually behaved like healthy couples do so this pic made me remember the good times
If only they could've always behaved like that then I would ship this till the day I die (...then again there would be no Korrasami so I'm glad it ended the way it did 
They'll be friends till the end and can always rely on each other despite their past and that's just great

Like they were still teenagers when they dated but grew up and stayed friends, that's awesome, I really like how their arc was handled c:

I loved and hated the love triangle. Yes it was annoying to a degree and got in the way of the plot too much (imho) but it was wonderfully portrayed. So many of us experienced it during that age: love based on attraction and before getting to know your love interest, being torn between two people, acting on hormones, cheating, fighting and lying. They were young and especially Korra never knew what love was so of course it all ended in a mess - it mosty does with first loves (not always of course). People learn from it and move on (and Bryke said Mako learned from it and will be a better partner to whoever he ends up with) but you're right: being able to remain friends is remarkable and can form a lifelong bond. It happened to me once. My ex and I are still very close and I'd do anything for him and vice versa despite our past as a failed couple.
Korrasami shipper often get accused of hating Mako. I never disliked Mako - I disliked his decisions and also Korras at that time because it was not only Mako who was to blame. Asami was the most mature in terms of handling this triangle imho (calling out Mako on his feelings for Korra, ending their relationship, not blaming Korra because it was Mako who was responsible to either call Korra off or end his relationship with Asami etc. - but yes, even she got weak and threw herself at him when she was vulnerable because she's only human - same as Mako & Korra).
But Mako matured and I grew to like him even more as a character.Β I always liked him and he became better and better over the years. He's a great friend to have and he'll do everything to help those close to him and he will be a good partner to whoever he ends up with

Yeah, I agree, I think because with Aang and Katara getting together relatively quickly('cause even though it was 3 seasons the time line of the show was like a year or so right?) and then stayed together, people were kinda of expecting the same thing with Mako and Korra. But yeah you're totally right, like I know a lot of people hate on book 2 Korra but I love book 2 Korra so much because she's so rash, and unsure and I think acted the most like a teenager in that book; I loved that about Book 2 in general, is that they have the teenagers act like freakin' teenagers even in the middle of a civil war, it makes me sad that people just skip right over book 2 sometimes because even if the art was a little awkward at the beginning, it really did have a good arc, and interesting things going on. Watching Korra struggle to get a handle on everything, and be under so much stress and pressure and then lashing out because of it, like you didn't really see that as intensely in other shows.
yeah, I always try to keep away from making Mako a bad guy in my stuff, 'cause he's really not, he's just like, trying to find his way c:

I could never see the appeal of Makorra.Β I know some people are nostalgic for high school crushes, but really the best thing i can say about it is that it ended relatively well for a high school crush between people who were attracted to each other but had no other chemistry.
I guess another nice thing i could say is that it really did end the way Zutara would have ended.Β Maybe a base attraction but minimal interests and personal problems that would prevent them from getting closer or really empathizing with each other.
