Description
The spirit of a boy who went missing long ago can be seen in the woods near Kakariko playing his flute. When Link approaches it, the spirit will dissapear. A dozing man in Kakariko speaks of his son who loved to play the flute who went missing long ago. Link finds the man’s son in the Dark world, changed into an aardvark type form. After Link’s quest, he makes a full recovery, and he plays his song once more, for the animals in the woods, and his reunited father.
I think we all know now that he’s not really playing a flute. I wonder why they didn’t want to actually call the instrument by the right name until the N64?

…I get the feeling that if Alttp were a modern game, people would ship Link and Flute boy, despite his small part of the story… just like they do with Pipit and Link in Skyward Sword (though Flute Boy actually has a role in the story, and isn’t a side-quest, unlike Pipit ). I’m quite tempted to ship them myself if I can’t think of a better character, and don’t feel the need to go the “Stranger he meets at a later time” route.
