Description
Lilith had meant to go straight home, so how had she wound up in the same alley where she'd first made contact with Qhuinn nearly three years ago.
It was almost as if her feet had just made the decision to trek here on their own, and she'd been so lost in her own mind that she hadn't noticed where they'd been taking her.
Lilith moved farther into the alleyway and lifted her hand to rest on the cool brick of the wall as she thought back to that eventful night. The memories were so clear and intense. If she closed her eyes, she could still recall the smell of the cool night air from that very night.
It wasn't very smart to be here tonight, she thought to herself as gazed up at the stars. Especially on a night when she'd been doing a lot of thinking about Qhuinn, and about how she felt about him.
A memory surfaced, and it made her smile. She remembered the look on Qhuinn's face when he'd approached her, when he'd gazed at her. The look in his eyes had excited her, and she could see that he wanted her.
Just as much as she wanted him.
Smiling at the thought, she reminded herself that it had been like that for her since the first moment she'd laid eyes on him. Lilith had taken one look at the dark haired male with the different colored eyes and had found herself drawn to him.
Qhuinn, she let his name slip through her mind with a sigh. Closing her eyes, she lifted her face to the sky and let the sudden gust of wind slap at her face and lift her loose hair in a swirling, golden dance.
What was he doing now?
"I didn't think you would actually be here."
The words, though said quietly, cut through the silence like one of Lilith's beloved knives. Her eyes snapped open in surprise and she whirled around to face the man behind that oh so familiar voice.
Almost as if the name she'd whispered in her thoughts summoned him, Qhuinn stood before her, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his leather jacket, his blue and green eyes intently focused on her.
"What're you-"
"Shut up."
Lilith gaped at Qhuinn when he interrupted her with an order to be silent, and at first she was too stunned to be angry, "Excuse me?" The way Qhuinn stalked farther into the alley reminded Lilith of a predator who had just cornered its prey. And she was the prey.
"Do you have any idea," he began in a angry growl, "how stupid it was for you to come out here on your own? To willingly put yourself in that kind of danger is just plain retarded, Lilith."
The shock was quickly wearing off and she it was starting to be replaced by blood boiling anger, "I can sure as hell take care of myself, Qhuinn. I don't always need someone with me when all I want to do is get some fucking air!"
She didn't back down when he stormed up to her and grabbed her by the shoulders. Expecting him to shake her, she lifted her chin in a gesture dripping with defiance.
And was stunned speechless when he roughly yanked her into his arms.
"I was scared," his voice vibrated through his chest. "No. I was terrified at the thought of something bad happening to you."
Her anger at him dissipated at the tremor she heard in his words. Her hands lifted around him and came to rest on the small of his back. "I can take care of myself," she said again, this time without anger. Her words were a bit muffled since her face was buried against his broad chest.
One of his hands came up to wrap his fingers in her hair. She blinked up at him in confusion until he tilted her head back and claimed her mouth with his.
Lilith moaned as his tongue slipped through her lips and tangled with hers. Qhuinn wasn't roughly seizing her mouth in desperate hunger like he was the other night they'd come together. This time he was more gentle; though the desperation and barely restrained need was still there in both of them, he was taking his time. He made love to her mouth with slow, deep strokes of his tongue and Lilith had to clench the material of his jacket tight in her hands to keep herself from ripping off his clothes.
With obvious reluctance, Qhuinn slowly pulled back from the softness and warmth of Lilith's mouth. He stared down at her with eyes bright and clouded and his fangs peeking out from between his lips as he took deep breaths; and Lilith couldn't help think that she'd never seen a more beautiful male.
She was startled out of her daze when Qhuinn gently cupped her cheek in his big hand. He smiled slightly and pressed his forehead tenderly against hers, "We need to talk."
Nodding she whispered, "I know."
He took her hand and started to lead her out of the alley, "Let's go back to your house and we'll settle things once and for all."
An idea sparked in her mind and Lilith pulled back from his hand. When he turned back to her with a scowl starting to form on that beautiful mouth, she held up a hand before he could object, "I'm not trying to weasel my way out of it. I was just thinking that I have a better place in mind where we could go. Somewhere where we can be alone and not have to worry about pesky girls."
Qhuinn raised a brow at her, "And this place would be?"
She smiled at him and retook his hand, this time she led him out of the alley, "Come on, Nallum, you'll see soon enough."
"Do you think the fool actually found her?" Karen asked Diane as the two of them munched on slices of pizza that had arrived only minutes ago in the arms of a scrawny delivery boy.
"Mmmm," Diane hummed in appreciation as she took a healthy bite out of her meat lover's pizza, her favorite. After swallowing, she replied to her redheaded friend, "Maybe." She shrugged, "Though since neither of them have come back, or called, yet I can't say for sure."
Karen thought about Lilith and the way she acted around the male called Qhuinn. "Hey, D. What do you think being in love is like?"
Diane stared at Karen as if she'd grown two heads, "What the hell kind of question is that?"
A rare blush spread across Karen's pale face, "I was just wondering!" she replied defensively. Folding her arms over her chest, she sunk down farther into the sofa as if she were trying to somehow meld into the cushions. "Lilith acts different around that guy. Sure he's Hope's father, but that really doesn't explain why Lilith treats him with such kindness." Karen frowned, her brows knitting together, like she was trying hard to remember something, "And the way she watches him. It's full of possession, like she knows the man's hers and won't let anyone else touch him."
Diane smiled slyly as she turned her devious eyes back to her meal, "Sounds like you're jealous to me, sister."
Karen immediately sat up and fixed her burning green eyes on her, "I am not! I don't even like that idiot, I don't see what Lilith sees in him!"
Diane laughed, "Did I say you were jealous of Lilith? No, I meant you're jealous of Qhuinn because Lilith loves him." The black haired female grinned at the other female, "Is the new kid in town spending too much time with mommy?"
Karen punched her hard in the arm before she shot out of the couch and started out of the room, "I'm going to go break something."
Diane shook her head after the female, but their conversation did remind her that Lilith was still missing and there wasn't too much time until sunrise. Rising from her spot, Diane went to Lilith's phone and scrolled through the contacts until she found Qhuinn's number. She shot him a text from Lilith's phone, asking him if he'd found the Black Rose Sisterhood's all knowing leader. After she sent it, Diane looked at the wallpaper on the phone and couldn't help but smile.
Lilith stood in a pair of yoga pants and an over-sized tank top, with a happy Hope riding on her hip, her small fist in her mouth.
Diane didn't know much about this Qhuinn guy, but she vowed that if he did anything to hurt Lilith or Hope she would personally see to it that he wouldn't be able breath anymore.
Whistling to herself, Diane returned to the couch and her fabulous pizza, without a care in the world that she'd just mentally threatened to kill a man. Plopping down on the sofa, Diane put her feet up on the coffee table, grabbed the remote and proceeded to get lost in the world of reality TV.
