I always was pretending I was wise,
But being honest, you were-
You had your years on me;
You were wiser so I listened.

I loved your stories that you told me
Of the first Wolf
And her guardian...
From the start I strove to be yours.

And you told me, how
The raven and the wolf
always looked out for each other.
Just like I tried to do for you

And when you could only see blackness,
I whispered promises of starlight.
And you were sure you saw it
In the teary glint of my tiny eyes

You called me your Raven
Your protector, protecting my little wolf
Funny, you were always older, bigger than me,
I guess you were cowering-

While I hovered above you
Seeming larger than I was
Just for you.
Always- for you.

And when you looked at me
You saw only shadows of
Me and my feathers, and saw them black,
As I sheltered you with them.

And did you ever know,
That in the shadows
My silhouette was not that
Of a large, strong raven

but of a small,
tiny

little

sparrow?

And you always were so far away but I never noticed.
Promises were sent to see you someday.
But you were always older than me.
And I always dismissed it-

...even when you grew up without me.

You have a new night-watch now, don't you?
She isn't a sparrow trying to play raven...
But at least she's your ebony dove,
Cooing love in your ear.

Playing her scene in your play.
She's sweet, and there for you.
Always.
Like I promised to be...
